Here are three reasons why it’s best to dry your wet/sweaty clothes before placing them in your laundry basket:

When damp clothes sit in a pile, moisture + body oils + darkness create the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and mildew. That’s what causes that musty β€œgym bag” smell that’s hard to wash out later.

Wet or sweaty items can transfer bacteria and moisture to your clean or dry laundry, making everything smell sour or even develop mold spots.

1️⃣ Fabric softeners tend to leave a thin, waxy film that can clog denim fibers, reducing breathability and making the fabric wear out faster.

2️⃣ If your jeans have elastane/spandex, fabric softener can break down those stretchy fibers, making jeans lose their shape and fit faster.

3️⃣ The softener film can interfere with the natural aging or β€œfade pattern” of raw or dark denim, which many of you may want to preserve.

Bottom line: it’s not totally badβ€”but if you’ve got jeans you love that you want to last longer, it’s best to skip the softener, wash inside out with mild detergent and cold water, and then air dry!
