Let's run down the most common – and most surprising things which can damage your car's paint.
🔴tree sap- One of the most common sights for a car in need of a wash and detail is tree sap. These small rough spots on your clear coat can quickly add up whenever your vehicle is parked under a tree with a broken branch. The critical thing to know about tree sap is that it doesn't damage your paint immediately, but it gradually destroys your clear coat over time, often leaving a discolored patch or stain behind in its wake.
🔴road tar- Recently laid roads, or those that have melted in hot weather, might flick up pieces of tar that will stick to your car's paintwork. If not removed correctly, the tar will take away the paint with it.
🔴bird poo- Well, it's all about science! Bird deposits contain a high amount of uric acid with a pH level somewhere between 3 and 4.5, which is quite acidic. Simple speaking, bird p**p on car can slowly eat your car out! acid is corrosive, and it quickly eats the wax coating or paint sealant and cuts through the paint work and damage your paint!
🔴uv rays- It's common knowledge that exposure to the ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun damages human skin, but these powerful rays also oxidize and fade automobile paint and make a car look old and worn out before its time. Besides looks, car wax, paint sealant, ceramic coating,PPF is also essential to protect your car paint from the harsh UV rays.
🔴industrial fall out- occurs when small airborne metal particles settle on the surface of your car and bond to it. They then begin to oxidize, looking very unsightly and if left untreated can damage the paintwork underneath.
🔴oxidation- Oxidation is a form of corrosion that happens when the chemicals in vehicle paint break down. With regular use and age, the paint dries out and loses its oil content. Heat and oxygen speed up this process, which is why limiting UV exposure is an important preventative measure.. Left unprotected, and out in the elements, your car's paint will begin to oxidize. You really won't notice oxidative deterioration over a period of a month or two, but it's there! Paint typically gets visibly dull and rough after approximately 2 years in the elements – without protection.
🔴water marks- These harmless looking spots can permanently damage your cars paint by etching into the clear coat. ... Especially during the summer months when the sun is baking the spots into the paint. Over time, repeated exposure to hard water without cleaning the paint will make these spots hard to remove.
🔴scratches(light-heavy)- Yes, it will rust eventually, but thats really a long, long term thing, and a little rock chip here and there won't amount to much in that time. Over time, water and dirt and salts from mineral deposits will get under the paint and start to spread and started to damage your paint specially on metal parts..touch up paint will do depends on paint damage to avoid corrosion on metal parts, repainting can be done if it is worst and will cost you more money.
The main goal of car detailing is to get rid of those paint defects listed above or other contaminants that collects on your car over time and to avoid car paint damage in the future.
