âś…A thin layer of clear coat with heavy orange peel is caused by poor atomization, incorrect spray gun settings, or fast-drying thinners/high temperatures preventing the paint from leveling. Because the coat is thin, sanding risks burning through to the basecoat.
A thin layer of clear coat that has already undergone multiple polishing sessions requires a delicate, "less is more" approach to avoid burning through to the base coat. The goal is to level the high spots of the texture without removing significant amounts of the remaining thin clear coat.
Approach: Progressive Leveling (Minimal Cutting)
Since the clear is already thin, heavy sanding example: 1000-1200 grit should be avoided in favor of finer grits or specialized abrasive
