Anyone who has dealt with a laundry stain knows the frustration of trying to remove it.

Whether it's a coffee stain on your shirt or a grass stain on your child's pants, getting rid of stains can be a challenge.

Fortunately, there are a few simple tips that can help.

For example, always treat a stain as soon as possible. The longer it sits, the harder it will be to remove.

In addition, be sure to test any cleaning products on an inconspicuous area of the fabric first.

With these guidelines in mind, here is a quick guide to removing some of the most common types of stains:

Coffee: Soak in cold water for 30 minutes, then machine wash using detergent and 1/2 cup bleach.

Grass: Mix 1 part dish soap with 2 parts hydrogen peroxide, then apply to stain and scrub with a brush. Rinse with cold water and machine wash using detergent.

Tomato sauce: Soak in cold water for 15 minutes, then machine wash using detergent and 1/2 cup vinegar.
