This is very informative. Most wasps that are feeding, are not very aggressive. When your are near the nest, they become much more aggressive and fly at you, crash into you and sting you.
Keep an eye out and let's get the numbers down.
Also, if you have ivy growing in your garden that is currently flowering, cut as many flowers off as you can. That is one of the favorite foods for German wasps.

While our fence keeps mammalian predators out, it can't stop introduced wasp species from getting inside and impacting our native birds and invertebrates as well as people in the sanctuary.

But how do you tell them apart from the native wasps?

Most of our native wasps don't look anything like the introduced wasps that we're all familiar with. They tend to keep to themselves, be stingless or only sting with extreme provocation, so you might not even be aware of them.

Introduced wasps are the only 'social' wasps in NZ, which means they have a queen and a nest that they protect and provide for.

This is an interesting video from Australia highlighting the rise in Non-occupational Mesothelioma in younger people. That is a cancer caused by exposure to Asbestos that is now being found in teenagers and young people who have never worked with Asbestos.
We have just finished a big job which highlights the risks to young people, it was a demo site which had been vacant for years. Over time teenagers had been messing around in there and the place had been smashed up. Those teens are potentially picking up asbestos fibres which could cause them health issues for life.

We often hear from builders and home owners “Oh but hardie plank doesnt have asbestos“ We will correct them but it is normally met with looks of dismissal or even outright statements telling us we are wrong.
Well, here is the proof.

Ahhh bedbugs.
They do not discriminate, clean, dirty, 5* or hovel, they will take up residence anywhere. There is no season for them. If not treated right the first time they can go from being a minor nuisance to a major nightmare in a very short time.
There are a few tips for travellers to help avoid them.
Keep clothing in zip lock bags in your luggage, especially night clothes, try to limit what you bring into a motel or other accommodation, if you bring your suitcase into the room do not put it on soft furniture e.g. beds, couches etc.
If you do end up with bedbugs in your home call the professionals immediately, do not bother with DE and other home remedies as they are highly unlikely to eliminate the problem and will simply allow them time to establish more and multiply.
