Kia ora citizen scientists! We've extended our deadline for participation until the 1st of December. This will be the final opportunity to find out what heavy metals are in your house dust using our programme, so make sure to take part or spread the word! Thanks to our first 200 questionnaire respondents! If you've already sent in your dust sample look out for an email with your results in the coming weeks. If not then we'd still love to receive your house dust! We're only accepting samples until the end of September so be quick :)

We’re examining household dust for metals which is what we’re reporting back to our citizen-scientists (keep sending in your vacuum dust, folks!) but we’re also interested in what are called “forever chemicals”. Rachel does a great job explaining what they are, here:

Introducing Dustsafe Aotearoa!

Dustsafe Aotearoa is a community science project investigating contamination found in housedust in New Zealand homes. We invite you to join our research as a community-scientist, so you can learn more about the environmental quality of your home while helping us learn about dust around Aotearoa! All it takes is a 15-minute survey and sending a bag of dust from your vacuum cleaner to the University of Auckland, and we will send you a report on metal contaminants found in your home.
