During the school holidays some of our rangatahi were fortunate to take part in the Tiaki Taiao Cadetship. Learning various skills from scrub cutting, kai collecting and pest control.
It has been an absolute pleasure having them apart of the team!!
The Whakatōhea Tiaki Taiao Project is an initiative that employs some of our local young people to improve the local environment. Some of the activities include pest control, track maintenance and wetlands restoration.
The Tiaki Taiao Cadetship began on the 19th of December 2022 and will run for three weeks from the 19th of December 2022 – the 23rd of December 2022 then restarting on the 16th of January 2023 – the 27th of January 2023.
Three rangitahi, Marupo Paruru, Chris Paruru and Tee Davis have been selected to work alongside our
Tiaki Taiao team to learn how to give back to the environment.
They will learn how to set and check traps, look after wetlands areas, and mahi kai gathering within our local nature and Moana areas.
