🔥 Making Moves crew had the privilege of sorting and stacking firewood for one of our kaumātua.

This was quite a hard job, the kaumātua asked us to separate the good cut-off wood from the not-so-good, which meant a lot of time, patience and mahi tahi. But we wanted to try our best, and step by step we got there in the end.

Our staff and rangatahi did this out of aroha, free of charge, a true koha for someone who gives so much back to our community.

Along the way, our rangatahi built skills in teamwork, problem-solving, perseverance, and attention to detail, lessons that will carry them well beyond this mahi.

It’s days like this that show what Making Moves is all about: rangatahi learning through real work, while giving back to the people who pave the way for us.

Today we returned for our third visit to Aroha Te Rangi Papakāinga 🙌

This papakainga has now become a regular part of our journey, a training ground where rangatahi build skills, give back to whānau, and learn the importance of looking after our whenua. 🌱

Each time we’re out here we’re learning more and more, from the art of mowing lawns to the practical mahi of caring for our whenua. 💯

Ngā mihi nui “Aroha Te Rangi Papakāinga” for this ongoing opportunity.

👉 If any whānau have papakāinga that need maintaining, please feel free to reach out.
InNot only will you get our services, but you’ll also be helping rangatahi gain work experience, connect with the taiao, and give back to our people. ✊

✨💸 Milestone Moment for our Rangatahi! 💸✨

Today our rangatahi experienced the buzz of receiving their first ever earnings through Making Moves. The smiles, relief, and pride said it all 🙌

Here’s what some of them had to say about the experience:

🗣 “Feels motivating so I can make more.” – Lucifer
🗣 “Overwhelmed… but feels great!” – Steele
🗣 “Feels good.” – Tu
🗣 “Appreciative of getting an opportunity.” – Brooklyn

When asked what they were most excited to do with it, the answers were simple but powerful:
🍔 “Buy some food for my whānau.”
✂️ “Hair cut.”
🪥 “Toothbrush.”
💭 “Something for myself.”

This is what Making Moves is all about, building work ethic, creating opportunities, and showing our rangatahi the value of mahi and pūtea. Ka mau te wehi team 👏👏👏

🔥 Week 3 is coming in HOT at Making Moves! 🔥

Our rangatahi were inspired by a powerful guest speaker “Te Kaapia-Jistar” who shared his growth journey and the importance of being unapologetically yourself. 💯🙌

The energy carried into the classroom, where we dived into job interview prep and started building CVs, setting our young people up with the tools and confidence to step into real opportunities. 📝✨

This is just the beginning… we’re shaping futures, one story, one interview, and one CV at a time. 🚀

📦✨ Our Rangatahi Out on Their First Job! ✨📦

Today was a big milestone for our rangatahi, their very first relocation move with the Making Moves crew! 🚛💪

Our rangatahi worked alongside our staff and experienced professionals, who led the job scope and quality assurance, while our young people shadowed, gained hands-on experience, and added their own skills and manpower to get the job done.

On the job they picked up heaps of new skills, including:
✅ Communicating and working as a team
✅ Learning how to connect a trailer
✅ Tying down loads safely with strops
✅ Safe moving and handling techniques
✅ Packing, lifting and shifting large items correctly
✅ Planning the workflow of a move and checking hazards

These real-world experiences are what our kaupapa is all about, preparing rangatahi for the workforce by building practical skills and confidence through mahi.

We’re super thankful to local organisations like WIT Trust 🙌 for giving us opportunities to not only complete quality mahi for our community, but also create learning and earning experiences for rangatahi.

This is just the beginning, our rangatahi are proving that when given the chance, they can step up, learn fast, and thrive. 🌱✨

🌱 Making Mahi Moves – First Mock Job Completed! 🌱

Today was a big milestone for our rangatahi as they headed out on their first mock job, putting all their classroom learning into practical mahi out in the community. 🙌

From greeting customers ✅
To hazard checks ✅
PPE gear checks ✅
Safe handling of mowers & w**d eaters ✅
Executing the job ✅
Final quality check ✅

…our crew worked through the full process of what it means to be on-site with Making Moves.

We are proud to say they all graduated with their first tick of approval 🎓💪 – meaning they’re now ready to step out on public jobs with our team and start building their real work experience.

✨ This is just the beginning, once rangatahi prove they have good work ethic and put in the mahi, they’ll earn the treats of paid work experience. 🥇
👉 Do the mahi, get the treats.
