Most dealerships offer ceramic coating at the point of sale. Here's why that's rarely the best place to have it done.

A ceramic coating is only as good as the paint underneath it. Seal a coating over swirl marks, dealer wash scratches, and bonded contaminants and you've locked those flaws in for years. Coating is the last step, not the first.

At Final Touch, paint correction is the job. We decontaminate the surface, then run through a thorough machine polish until the paint looks and feels like glass. Only then does the coating go on. A dealer's valet bay isn't set up for that level of prep, and it usually isn't priced for it either.

There's the value side too. A coating bundled into your finance package gets rolled into the loan and paid off with interest over the term of the vehicle. Paid direct, the same or better work costs you what it costs, and you deal with the people who actually applied it.

That ceramic coating the dealership adds to your new car quote is often marked up hard, and applied fast.

When negotiating the deal for your new car, a coating gets tacked on for more than $1,200, then rushed onto paint that hasn't been properly decontaminated or corrected first. Skip those steps and you're sealing swirls and contaminants under the coating instead of protecting clean paint.

We do it the other way round. Surface decontamination, then a thorough machine polish so the paint looks and feels like glass, then the coating goes on. That's what makes it last, and it's usually less than what the dealer quotes.
