Bait lure & Trap

Bait and lure methods combined with exclusion fencing and trapping allow us to significantly reduce the amount of labour needed to cover large areas. Additionally, warren-damaged areas can be controlled before ground restoration begins. 🌱

You will able to purchase & loan trapping equipment via ourselves. 😁

In addition to teaching and supplying bait lure and trap methods, we also teach clients and staff how to maintain these systems and how to improve them with management assistance. 😊

In New Zealand, ferrets have been banned from being bred and kept in captivity this year due to their threat to the local wildlife.

Due to our background in ferreting, we know how labor intensive this task can be, but it is well worth the effort. Since the days of the rabbiter, these furry friends have been working alongside man and have been a part of many poor families' way of life in our history. Now, due to human error, they have been deprived of the opportunity to work with man and have become just another pest.

Our lessons are in our history, better understanding on larger scales are needed within pest control and wildlife.

Myxomatosis (Mixy) In 1953

Rabbit hemorrhagic disease (RHD), also known as viral hemorrhagic disease (VHD) There are two strains of VHD (VHD1 and 'new variant' VHD2). VHD1 was first discovered in China in 1984

Viruses and diseases have been created by humans to combat the threats and ecological changes that rabbits create. Our less cruel ways of managing rabbits are far more ethical. ☣️

The same can be said about poisoning, where some areas not only recover but can return at an alarming rate.

Creating Viruses & diseases can have severe consequences to environments and ecological disasters including other wildlife. ☒️

The creation of systems that will enable easy management of problematic areas where rabbits tend to graze on particular pastures.

The amount of grass lost in these areas leaves livestock starved and the land suffocated with contamination from droppings and urine, including overgrazing. 😞

Habitat & environmental factors are always considered in our planning 😊

Trapping methods using newly designed live traps, drop box management, and live bait trapping, have proven effective on large scales for thousands of animals. πŸ‡

When combined with our fencing styles lure systems, you can remove from 100s to 1000s within a days by reducing numbers in unmanaged areas.

We use live trap systems to keep rabbits clean for processing for meat, since sustainability is very important to us. 😊

Our plans will focus on conservation and management on a larger scale. We will develop culling plans and prevention measures, including maintenance, to ensure Jibb Pest Control can help you reduce your chance of spreading and keep to a manageable level.

We work collaboratively and understand the needs of land owners, businesses, and farmers, including working with nature and managing pests in the area 🌳

Exclusion fencing involves constructing a fence around a rabbit-prone areas to exclude rabbits.

Rabbit-proof fencing is a one-off process. However, fences are expensive and require regular maintenance to ensure there are no gaps. With proper maintenance fences should last up to 20 years. πŸ’ͺ

Clearance of rabbits is put into place before preforming this type of fencing with ourselves, this ensures the fence works correctly along side other plans with ensuring the parameters have been effective and are maintained. 🀺

One consequence of such fences is that the movement of some native animals may be limited by rabbit-proof fencing, we consider this with all our planning. 😊

1080 WHERE IS IT USED? ☣️

1080 is still used in Australia, Israel, Japan, Korea, Mexico, and New Zealand. It is banned in most countries, including the US, where it was outlawed in the early 1970s because of civilian deaths. ☠️

DOES IT WORK?
1080 certainly causes a great deal of suffering, but there’s no proof that it offers a real solution to environmental damage from introduced or β€œpest” species. The so-called β€œculling” of animals is neither a suitable nor an effective method of limiting populations. In fact, it can often lead to an increase in the number of animals present in a given area, as it creates a more suitable habitat for increased reproduction. πŸ‡

What is 1080? 🧐

1080 is the common name for a biodegradable poison called sodium fluoroacetate.

1080 is toxic to all living species including bacteria, plants, insects, birds, and humans. In mammals, it causes birth defects, reduced fertility, and damage to the reproductive system, brain, heart, and other organs. Anecdotal evidence indicates that its use may be associated with an increased risk of developing cancer. It is reported that the N***s considered using this poison on Jewish prisoners in concentration camps, but decided against it due to the danger to the guards. 😟

We stick to more natural alternative methods. 😊
(We understand poison is needed within some management alongside other methods to first establish control due to terrains)

03/10/2022

In an integrated rabbit management program, poison baiting is often the first step. Nevertheless, if used alone, baiting only provides short-term control and should be used in conjunction with other controls such as warren destruction to reduce rabbit numbers. When rabbits live in dense vegetation on the edge of pastureland, baiting might be very unnatural deaths and horrific effects towards other animals and ground contamination in agriculture also very expensive. ⚠️

The two most common poisons used to control rabbits in are sodium monofluoroacetate (compound 1080) and pindone. Poison and chemical use is managed by state and territory authorities, and purchase, handling and use restrictions usually apply. It is important to assess the site and situation, and check with local pest authorities before starting a poison baiting program. ☣️

Areas such as Moeraki & Central Otago regions are becoming less effective by just poising alone.

We prefer a more natural way of dealing with rabbits when possible and in our management plans ☒️
