Cultural Development 🩵🌟

This month we were fortunate enough to camp out at Waiora farm for our traditional Matariki camping trip experience! ⭐️ Such a fun time with each other! We split into teams & all had planned activities that associated with 1 of the 9 Matariki stars. These activities involved waiata, kai, rock painting, goal setting, treasure hunting, some arts & craft and even some breath work guided by Che. This was a great way for everyone to learn about all the stars and what is associated with them. 🌙
Ngā Mihi Nui to Ricky and our Wai-ora whānau for allowing us to use the farm, our camping trip was more a GLAMping trip in the end! 🩵🌟🩵

As we jump into these colder months, we warmly welcome planting season! Our kaimahi have been smashing out all the planting followed by guarding the plants for a little extra protection. Take a look at these pikitia to see the action on field. 🪵🌳🌿

Our very first native planting stats! This will be replacing our usual monthly trapping statistic summary. We thought this would be a cool way to show you all how our planting season is going this year within our takiwā! 🌱🌿💚🐸🍏🪴

🌱 Planting 🌱

This week we were lucky enough to be joined by the senior outdoor class from Kaikoura High School to show them the ropes of native planting. 🌿 They met us out on one of our Waiau sites while on their 2-day wānanga, what a fun day teaching rangatahi what we do for mahi. They smashed it out and we enjoyed seeing some new faces on field. Ka pai tō mahi team! 🙌

A wee mahi update for your Rāapa Whānau 😀

She's all go! We've been wrapping up all things trapping, including starting to pull traps in off the line! We've also commenced a ton of native planting prep on our sites in the Hurunui. Our field tīma have been scheduled all over our takiwā and it brings us a great sense of pride to help restore the gift of Marokura in numerous sites! 🌱🌱

We also attended our last Te Rā Pūkenga yesterday, and sure saw the end of our training round out in style! We had an overview of following the pūrākau stories with Maurice along our beautiful coastline, with some other bits in between which were organized by the awesome TAP team - it was an amazing day! Stay tuned to the 'Te Ara Pūkenga ' page to read all about it! 🙌🌞
