39 New queens on the way! A new top score for queen rearing πŸ˜€. Usually we get around 25-30 takes on such a frame. All credit to the steady hand of Mrs Beekeeper who does the grafting.

We are just underway with taking the honey off the producing hives and extracting into glass honey jars. Some nice looking new season product ready for sale. 😁😁

The Enderley Bees website is up and running (enderleybees.com).

A very generous farmer hosting our hives has given us the use of a disused calf rearing shed to store some gear. Just in the nick of time... our domestic garage was bursting at the seams! That's one thing I like about beekeeping. We get to meet some wonderful life-style block owners! ~ Nick

Ay Crumba. This isn't a little Christmas dew on top of the frames... this is row after row of wax moth cocoon lying perpendicular to the frame. The bee colony is long gone of course. We check our hives every few months so I would never have expected it to get away like this. Shows how fast it can go!

Obviously a bit hot on the inside today with temps in Ham up around 32 degrees. And this is with a vented floor.

Bee swarm - just touched down. We picked this one up in the Thomas road area. Not an exciting shot as they were all in the box in two shakes ;)

Caught in the act. These girls decided it was time to move house. Cast 3 swarms into the neighbours plum tree!

These are German yellow jackets. This nest I found in Pukete is underground, which is where they usually build their nests, but they also get into roof cavities. They can cause big problems for apiaries if they attack in numbers. An average nest produces over 10,000 workers in a season and one on one... wasp beats bee every time.
