The Case-bearing Clothes Moth loves invading woolen carpets. It is not the adult moth that causes the damage, but the larvae, small, cream-colored caterpillars that live inside protective silken cases. These larvae feed on natural proteins found in wool and silk, often hiding in dark, undisturbed areas like under heavy furniture or along skirting boards.

You might notice threadbare patches where the pile has been grazed away, or find small, rice-like cocoons tucked into the edges of the room.

Should I hire the company offering the lowest price?

Maybe, but this is not normally the case. Here are two important points to consider:

Make sure you know exactly what’s included in the price quote. A thorough hot-water-extraction cleaning with pre-treatment, for example, is going to cost more than hiring someone who uses a small shampooer on your carpets. A $15k+ machine will do a much better job than a push-behind machine usually priced around or below the 1k mark.

Next, be wary of low prices and hidden costs. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. So before you buy, be sure you know exactly what is included, just as important, what isn't included along with a total fixed-price before your cleaner goes ahead.

Such a beautiful day to be out and about cleaning and repairing carpets in the Manawatu.

We decided to avoid a smaller repair to fix this pet damage, due to the sunfade in the living room. The new, spare carpet had not experienced any fade and therefore had a darker tone.

Instead, this was discussed and agreed with our clients, that a wall-to-wall repair would produce a more uniform appearance.

Due to the limited length of the spare carpet, this was completed using a total of five pieces.

One of our jobs today involved repairing a pulled thread in a fairly new carpet.

If threads are pulled on a seam, they can be sewn back in...but, they just won't last (unlike threads pulled away from seams).

However yarn can be re-coiled and glued back into place, for a good strong finish that should last the life of your carpet (2 year gauranty).
