Spring / summer are officially in full swing, and for anyone running their own business, you know what that means… the busiest months of the year are here. 🌞💼

This time of year can really drain you. The long days, constant jobs, and endless to-do lists can make it feel like you’re running non-stop with barely a pause. But here’s the thing I’ve learned from running my own business: this is also the time to really lean in.

These months bring the highest volume of work and the biggest opportunities for revenue. Every job, every customer, every busy day is a chance to build momentum and make a real difference for your business. It’s a grind, but it’s also rewarding in ways that quieter months never are.

So yeah, it’s exhausting—but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Taking advantage of the work coming through now isn’t just about revenue; it’s about building resilience, sharpening skills, and setting yourself up for the rest of the year. If you’re running your own business, this is your time to get stuck in and own it. 💪

Here’s to pushing through the busy season and making it count.

🏋️‍♂️ Why I Started Going to the Gym Again

I’ve realised something lately — if I don’t take care of myself, I can’t take care of anything else. Not my business. Not my family.

Running a business takes a lot out of you. Long hours, constant decisions, stress that doesn’t switch off. I used to tell myself I was “too busy” to train… but really, I've been running on empty.

Now, I get up at 4:30am, hit the gym, and carve out that small window of time that’s just for me. No phone. No emails. Just me vs me.

Then I come home, make a coffee, and get straight into work — before the rest of the house wakes up. That quiet time sets the tone for the day.

For me, the gym isn’t just about looking good — it’s about:
💪 Having the energy to work harder and longer.
🧠 Keeping my head clear so I make better decisions.
👨‍👧 Being a dad who’s present, strong, and leading by example.

I’m not doing it for abs — I’m doing it for longevity. For my family. For the life I’m building. Also for the abs..

If you’re running a business, chasing goals, or raising a family — remember: you’re the engine. Don’t run yourself into the ground.

Cut out a small piece of your day that’s just for you. It’ll change everything. 🔥

🌧️ The Not-So-Glamorous Side of Running a Service Business in NZ

People see the before-and-afters, the gear, the clean finishes — but what they don’t see is how much of our day depends on the weather. ☁️

Running a service-based business in New Zealand means checking the forecast becomes a full-time job in itself. One minute it’s blue skies and the next, sideways rain. Jobs get postponed, rescheduled, moved across towns — sometimes all before 10 AM.

It’s one of the toughest parts of this game: staying reliable when the weather isn’t. It tests your patience, your systems, and your mindset. You can’t control the sky — but you can control your attitude, communication, and how you bounce back.

To every small-business owner out there juggling clients, forecasts, and invoices between rain showers — keep going. 🌧️☀️ You’re not alone, and your consistency through the chaos is what sets you apart.

Google Reviews: Why They Matter More Than You Think

For a local business like ours, Google reviews aren’t just “nice to have” — they’re one of the most powerful tools we have. They help people find us on Google, build trust, and show proof that we deliver what we promise.

We’re proud to have 87 Google reviews — all 5 stars — and we don’t take that lightly. Every review represents a real client who trusted us with their home.

So how do you get reviews that actually mean something? Here’s what we’ve learned:

Take the time to talk with your client. Understand what they really want and how you can add value to the job.

Ask the right questions. Sometimes clients don’t share details until you dig a little deeper — that’s where you can make the biggest difference.

Add value where you can. Go the extra mile on the small things. It’s often the details people remember most.

Ask — but don’t force it. You don’t need to beg for a “5-star review.” Simply let clients know how much it helps your business if they share their experience.

Automate it. We have a system set up to send a review request after every job, so clients don’t need to remember.

When clients take a moment to leave a review, it doesn’t just help us — it helps future homeowners feel confident they’re choosing the right people for their home. That trust is priceless.

A huge thank you to everyone who has left us a review so far. You’ve helped us grow, reach new clients, and keep doing what we love.

💡 I’ve spent over $10,000 running ads on Facebook, and here’s what I’ve learned:

1️⃣ Quality matters. A basic flyer can get leads, but well-made video with a clear voiceover and solid editing performs way better.

2️⃣ Speed is key. Contacting leads quickly makes all the difference.

3️⃣ Ad fatigue is real. Keep your content fresh. When something works, double down on it. When it doesn’t, dig into the “why” and adjust.

4️⃣ Duplicate success. Don’t reinvent the wheel—if an ad is working, replicate it and scale.

5️⃣ Be honest and fair. Ads might get the clicks, but trust and reputation keep the business growing.

Running ads is a constant learning process, but every dollar spent has taught me how to build smarter, not just bigger.

Starting Something New 🚀

Owning a business in NZ is one of the hardest — and most rewarding — things I’ve ever done.

Most people only see the “end result”: the finished job, the invoice, maybe the ad they scroll past. What they don’t see are the endless late nights building systems, learning marketing from scratch, figuring out quoting, or just trying to keep the wheels turning when no one’s watching.

I’ve been running my business full time since May 2023, and it’s been a rollercoaster — some big wins, some painful lessons, and a lot of learning the hard way.

That’s why I’ve started this page. To share the real behind-the-scenes of running a small business here in NZ:

The wins ✅

The failures ❌

The marketing experiments that worked (and the ones that flopped) 📊

The systems I’m building to save time and keep things moving ⚙️

I’m not here to preach or pretend I’ve got it all figured out. I’m still a beginner — learning, testing, and making mistakes along the way. But that’s the point of this page: to document the journey, raw and unpolished.

If you’re into business, marketing, or just curious what it’s really like to run a small business in New Zealand, follow along. This will be honest, messy, and hopefully valuable.

👉 Drop a comment if you own a business too, or if there’s something specific you’d like me to share more about.

✨ Welcome to my page!
I’m a business owner and entrepreneur based here in New Zealand 🇳🇿. I started this page to share the real behind-the-scenes of building and growing a business — the wins, the struggles, and everything in between.

This is also a space to connect with other business owners and entrepreneurs, especially here in NZ. My goal is to build a community where we can learn from each other, swap ideas, and stay motivated.

I’ll be posting regular content — from practical tips to personal stories — so stick around if you want insight, honesty, and inspiration from the day-to-day journey of entrepreneurship.
