Not every CSS job involves crawling into dark spaces, dealing with a serious incident, or getting covered in who-knows-what.

Recently, our team had the opportunity to work at a popular local attraction, and while we were still there to get the job done, the location certainly wasn’t a bad place to spend a few hours! 📸😉👍

It’s a good reminder that our work can take us into some interesting places, and any job, big or small, can have a silver lining.

We’ll take this view over a crawl space any day! 🐧🐧🐧

This event is held in remembrance of the 9/11 firefighters and in honour of our own emergency service workers here in Aotearoa.

This is no small feat and showcases real commitment, physical preparation & mental strength.

Well done to Caelan and all the participants, and thank you, FENZ, for your continued service to our communities. ❤️‍🔥

With Mesothelioma Awareness Day coming up on the 26th September, we're taking the opportunity to highlight a recent NZ Herald article featuring electrician Andrew Winders, who is facing a terminal diagnosis of mesothelioma and is calling for greater asbestos awareness and training across the trades.

Andrew's story is a confronting reminder that asbestos exposure can have devasting consequences, often decades after the exposure occured.

For electricians and other tradespeople working on older buildings, asbestos can be present in places you may not expect. Drilling, cutting, sanding or disturbing ACMs can release hazardous fibres.

The message is simple: know what you're working with before you start.

If you're unsure whether a material contains asbestos, stop and get it professionally assessed before disturbing it.

At CSS, we support Andrew's call for greater awareness across the trades. A better understanding of where asbestos can be found, and how to work safely around it, can help prevent unnecessary exposure.

Mould is a common problem for New Zealand homeowners and property managers. While visible mould can be unsightly, it may also indicate underlying issues such as leaks, water ingress, poor ventilation, failed waterproofing or excess moisture.

If the source of the moisture isn't addressed, mould can continue to return, while ongoing moisture can damage building materials and contribute to more serious building problems over time.

Whether you've spotted mould on a bathroom ceiling, noticed a musty smell, or are dealing with recurring mould growth, it's important to address both the mould and its source.

At CSS, we can help you identify and address mould and moisture-related issues, helping homeowners and property managers get their buildings back to a healthier, safer condition.

If you suspect a material in your home or workplace may contain asbestos, don't disturb it.

Asbestos fibres are released when ACM's (asbestos containing materials) are damaged or disturbed. Once airborne, these microscopic fibres can be inhaled and pose serious long term health risks.

If you're unsure, seek expert advice before you start. It's always safer to check first than risk exposing yourself, your family, or others.

A recent news story in the NZ Herald highlights the devastating impact mould can have on a family's health, with a South Auckland boy developing a serious and lifelong lung condition after living in a damp, mould-affected home.

Research shows that damp and mouldy living conditions can significantly increase the risk of respiratory illness, particularly in children. Mould is more than just an unsightly problem; it can be a serious health hazard, as this case demonstrates.

Don't ignore the warning signs, if mould continues to return despite your cleaning efforts, it may indicate an underlying issue that requires professional attention.

Contact CSS today to discuss how our team can help protect your home, your property, and most importantly, your family's health.

As a subtropical low brings rain warnings to Northland, Auckland, Coromandel & the Bay of Plenty, and Cyclone Vaianu is forecast to impact New Zealand this weekend, properties will face flood risk and water damage.
A quick response is critical to prevent water from saturating building materials, which can lead to long-term structural issues and dangerous mould infestations.
