Project in development: Installation is underway on the tower facade of the new Mama Shelter hotel in Amsterdam North, realized under the responsibility of J.P. van Eesteren B.V.

A total of 1203 m² of Solarix black matt facade panels have been installed by our trusted partners Sorba Projects - Shaping architecture , transforming this energy-positive hotel into a strong example of sustainable architecture.

With the grand opening expected in 2027, stay tuned as this project continues to evolve.

Solarix black solar panels are redefining how solar technology integrates with architecture. Designed with barely visible cells, the panels create a clean, uniform surface that blends seamlessly into the building’s facade, elevating both performance and aesthetics.

Unlike conventional solar solutions, Solarix panels are developed as a true building material. This makes them suitable for architects and developers who want to incorporate renewable energy without compromising the visual identity of a project.

Last week, our co-founder Reinier was in Stockholm for , one of the leading construction fairs in Sweden where he presented Solarix as part of the NL Pavilion. We caught up with him afterwards to hear his reflections 👇

In the Nordic regions, sustainability is already deeply embedded in regulations, design processes, and client expectations. But the translation into fully integrated energy solutions is still in its early stages. At the same time, ambitions are rising, with projects already being evaluated on energy performance per m², in some cases targeting up to twice the regulatory requirements.

"That’s exactly where integrating energy generation into the facade starts to make a real difference. Without it, reaching those levels simply isn’t feasible"

What makes the Nordics particularly interesting is how local conditions actually strengthen the case for BIPV.

“Due to lower sun angles and snow reflection, vertical surfaces perform really well. This makes facades not just an addition but a key part of the solution.”

We are proud to share the first images of the new facade of Hotel Laudinella !

Commissioned by the hotel itself and developed in collaboration with Reech and Sticker Architekten, the extension brings together sustainability and architecture in a refined, future-proof design.

The facade has been carefully upgraded with a custom colour from the Solarix Dot collection, seamlessly integrated into a warm timber structure. A beautiful detail where materiality and performance come together. In total, 1,232.8 m² of solar facade panels have been installed, marking Solarix’s first realised solar facade in Switzerland, a step forward in making sustainable energy an integral part of high-quality architecture.

✨ We’re looking back on a project completed last year — a strong example of how architecture can redefine urban spaces.

The Jay Tower, designed by architectenbureau OMA and developed by AM, features a solar facade realised in collaboration with Wattco.nl . As part of the Bajeskwartier masterplan, the project transforms a former prison site into a vibrant, future-proof living environment.

Envisioned as a sustainable urban hub, the area prioritises green spaces, energy efficiency, and circular living.

We are proud to share that last week, our Founder and CEO Marloes van Heteren joined the guest panel on New Business Radio, hosted by Ron Lemmens. Together with Jan Vesseur, CEO of SolarNL, and Herman van Barneveld, CFO of Lightyear, they discussed the role of the Netherlands as a key player in the global solar energy sector.

The conversation explored how to scale up the solar energy sector in the Netherlands and across Europe, where certification requirements are strict, and how collaboration between industry and research can accelerate innovation.

As Marloes shared during the conversation:
“The solar panels that we integrate in facades must comply with regulations, fire safety requirements, as well as structural and static requirements. If you look at how many tests facade solar panels undergo, it is many times more than any other building material.”

Last week, we wrapped up three inspiring days at MaterialDistrict. It was great to have so many interesting conversations and receive such positive reactions to Solarix. 🌞

A special highlight was seeing our co-founder Reinier Bosh pitch Solarix during the TBI Holdings x MaterialDistrict competition. It was inspiring to hear innovators share their ideas and products, showing how design and sustainability can come together to create real impact.
