HOW TO DRIVE SAFELY IN THE RAIN
Driving in the rain can be a scary thing, and in the night, it is even worse. It is difficult to see out of the window and the other car's lights seem to make it worse, especially when you begin to slide.
Here are some safety tips to avoid getting into an accident while it's raining.

1.Keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times
Keep all distractions, such as mobile phones or even the radio, off and away from you while you focus on driving. Take a look at the rear view mirror as well as the left and right side view mirrors to get 360 degree view of what is happening around you.

2. Turn on your head and tail lights
This will make it easier for you to see what is in front of you and others behind you to see you, thus preventing any accidents

3. Keep a reasonable distance from the car in front of you
You never know what other drivers are going to do or what could happen to you. If you keep your distance from other drivers, you will almost always have an escape route, or will be able to take some sort of evasive action with ease. Also keep your speed down.

4. Be aware that brakes can be affected by water
Wet drum type brakes are especially prone to decreased stopping power after driving through deep water, therefore keep a reasonable distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.

5. Avoid flooded roads
Never drive through standing or flowing water on a road unless you have no choice or you are able to follow someone else to judge the depth of the water. Flooding the engine of your car can cause the engine to stall, and deep water can actually float your car and take it off the roadway.

6. Turn on the defroster if the windshield begins to fog
In hot, muggy weather, air conditioned air will usually clear the inside of the windshield faster than non-air conditioned.

7. Other Tips:
• Use a rain repellent product on side windows and mirrors to clear standing raindrops.
• Test your brakes after leaving flood water
• If your engine cuts out after driving through deep water, do not attempt to restart as engine damage may occur – instead call for assistance and have the vehicle professionally examined.
• If you do go through water, drive on the highest section of the road
• Use dimmed headlights so that other drivers can see you more easily
• Do not reverse when stocked in pool of water

Enjoy Your Ride !

Extend The Life Of Your New Or Used Car
by: Ryan Larson

You don't think much about your car do you? Your car sits outside 24/7, 365 days a year in all extremes of weather. You routinely drive it at speeds that exceed 70 mph. You stop, start, stop, start through city traffic. You sit idling in traffic jams day after day. Yet, you expect your car to start every time you get into it and turn the key.

The best thing that you can do to extend the life of your car, and to potentially save yourself a bundle of money, is to have your car serviced on a routine basis. All car manufacturers have a schedule of recommended services for each vehicle they sell. Follow this schedule. The best place to have work done on a new vehicle that is still under warranty is the dealership.

It's a bit different when you have an older, out of warranty car. At this point you can make a decision to continue to use the dealer for service, or find yourself a local mechanic.

The first rule of thumb is to have the oil in your car changed every 3,000 miles. This is the simplest and most important part of routine maintenance for your car. At that time, whether you go to a "speedy" oil change business or to your mechanic, the technician will take a look at the overall condition of your engine. They'll check belts and hoses and fluid levels of your transmission and brakes. They'll check your air cleaner and the condition of your tires. Some of these drive through services also offer add on's such as engine cleaning and radiator flushes. If they think they see something that could become potentially serious they will tell you about it and suggest you take your car to a mechanic.

Cars have really changed over the years and most technicians use computers to diagnose problems. You'll need to be able to describe the problem to the mechanic. They'll need to know things such as when you first noticed the problem and exactly under what condition it happens. Does it happen when the car is cold, or after it warms up? Does it happen when you're at an idle or when your accelerating? If you don't use the same mechanic have a copy of your car's service record with you so that the new mechanic can see what maintenance been done in the past. It's best to find a mechanic you're comfortable with and stay with him. Knowing your car's history can go a long way towards helping him diagnose and fix a problem.

Learn to listen to your car. If you hear an unusual noise, notice a change in it's performance or handling take it to your mechanic.

Tip 1
Check and change the oil. No single step will help an engine last more than regular oil and filter changes will. Conversely, nothing will destroy an engine faster than neglecting oil-level checks or fresh-oil changes.

Tip 2
Flush the cooling system and change coolant once a year. A 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water will keep the cooling system in good shape and prevent corrosion and deposits from building up inside the cooling system.

Tip 3
Change out transmission and differential oils. While not requiring frequent service, these fluids must be changed according to service intervals. Always use transmission fluid or gear oil of the recommended type and viscosity.

Tip 4
Keep it clean. While washing the outside of the vehicle is obvious, most everything the vehicle ran over can also get stuck to the underside. Hosing off winter salt and road grime is a good idea.

Tip 5
Everything with moving parts needs grease to survive. This ball joint went into early retirement due to poor lubrication.

Tip 6
Nothing keeps paint looking good and protected like a coat of quality wax. Apply wax at least every six months.

Tip 7
Driveline components such as u-joints also require regular lubrication. The driveline may have to be removed to access the zerk grease fitting.

Tip 8
Protect the interior plastic by parking the vehicle in the shade, using a window deflector screen, and applying a UV protectant to prevent the plastic and vinyl from drying out.

Tip 9
Inspect, clean, and repack wheel bearings with wheel bearing grease according to service intervals. Wheel bearings and grease are inexpensive compared to spindle and hub replacement, or liberated wheels rolling down the road ahead of you.

Tip 10
Brake fluid is hygroscopic. This means it is adept at attracting moisture. Moisture causes components to corrode and fail. Replace fluid and bleed system once a year. Brake fluid is cheap. Callipers, hoses, and sensors are expensive.
