This week, I was blessed to meet the wonderful Mrs. Kemi Abah, wife of Dr. Joe Abah, who turns 60 today. About a month ago, she reached out to me after seeing my advert in a WhatsApp group we both belong to. She wanted the interlocking in their compound cleaned in preparation for her husband’s birthday. From her very first call, I was thrilled about the possibility of working with her, in sha Allah...
A few weeks later, I visited her home for an inspection. From that initial meeting, her kindness was truly remarkable, and it felt like we had known each other for ages. Fast forward to this week, when we agreed to proceed with the cleaning. It took us a full three days to complete, and the first day was especially memorable. She graciously invited me into her livingrooms, to see her beautiful work (interiors) giving me a tour as we chatted for over two hours. Our conversation covered so many topics: life, marriage, work, business, modesty, kindness, relationships, charity, and faith. I gained so much insight from our discussion.
At one point, she noticed we needed a specific tool to speed up our work. Without even mentioning it, she went out with her driver to get the item for us. This thoughtful gesture really stood out, showcasing her selflessness and genuine kindness.
Yesterday, when we wrapped up the job, I had a final review with her. She said warmly, "Ose, Bilikis, you did so well. I’ll send your balance a bit later, once I’ve had some rest." I asked if I could give her a hug, and she responded with a laugh, saying hugs are free where she comes from, lol.., and she embraced me warmly.
In our journey through life, we encounter remarkable people we never imagined we would meet. Whatever you do, give it your best. Do it with passion, and have trust in Allah.
