A new client reached out after taking over a property. The pool had been sitting untouched for 3 months. Here's the damage report:

🔴 Water completely green visibility near zero

That strong chlorine smell most people associate with a 'clean pool'? That's actually chloramines a sign that chlorine has combined with ammonia, sweat, and other contaminants.

A properly balanced pool should have almost no smell at all.

What causes the strong smell:
❌ Too much chlorine without proper pH balance
❌ Swimmer waste (sweat, sunscreen, oils)
❌ Not enough fresh water circulation
❌ Insufficient shock treatment

You clean the pool, add chemicals, everything looks fine. One week later green again. It is not bad luck. It is a root cause that never got fixed.

3 most common reasons it keeps coming back:

Filter media exhausted old sand or dirty cartridge cannot trap algae spores anymore, so they just keep circulating

Pump run time too short if circulation is not long enough, chemicals do not spread evenly and algae find pockets to grow

Chemistry imbalanced low chlorine combined with high pH creates the perfect environment for algae to take over

In Malaysia's heat, pool owners assume water loss is normal evaporation. Sometimes it is. But if your level drops more than 5mm a day, there's likely a hidden leak.

Common sources of pool leaks:
🔍 Pipe fittings underground
🔍 Hairline cracks in the pool shell or tile grout
🔍 Faulty valve or pump seal
🔍 Return line joints behind the wall

Ignoring a slow leak = wasted water + diluted chemicals + pump working overtime = bigger bill later.

Pool water level dropping every few days and you are not sure if it is a real problem? Do not call a contractor yet. There is a simple way to check it yourself first.

The Bucket Test 3 steps:
Step 1: Fill a bucket with pool water. Place it on the pool steps at the same level as the pool surface. Mark both water levels with tape.
Step 2: Turn off the pump. Leave it for 24 hours with no swimming.
Step 3: Compare the two levels. If the pool dropped more than the bucket, you likely have a real leak not just evaporation.

In Malaysia heat, normal evaporation is around 3–5mm per day. Anything significantly more warrants a closer look.

Mosaic tiles are popular lah small squares, nice pattern, looks luxurious. But if you choose the wrong type, maintenance becomes nightmare.

What to watch out for:
⚠️ Regular ceramic mosaic tiles absorb water crack and loosen over time
⚠️ Cheap grout discolours fast and harbour algae
⚠️ Non-slip rating matters slippery mosaic tiles = accident waiting to happen
⚠️ Some tiles fade with chlorine exposure after 1–2 years

Pool Rangers use only pool-grade glass or vitrified mosaic tiles with proper waterproof grout. Look good AND last long.
