Do You Need a TIP in Baja California Sur? – Summary for Foreign Vehicle Owners
Baja California Sur is considered a Free Zone under Mexican customs law. This provides certain exceptions to the need for a Temporary Import Permit (TIP), but the rules vary depending on your immigration status:

1. TOURISTS (Visitors Without Residency)
• ✅ Can drive a foreign-plated vehicle in Baja California Sur without a TIP.
• ✅ Your vehicle must always accompany you, and its legal status inside the country is tied to your tourist Visa. When you leave, you must take your car with you, UNLESS:
• ⚠️ Having a TIP allows you to leave your vehicle in Mexico while you return home.
