Rice & carry bags

Rice & carry bags Every rice & carry bag is a unique piece hand made by local ladies of Sri Lanka’s east coast! They are not perfect but made with enthusiasm.

Our approach is to secure fair incomes for local women & their families and a higher awareness towards reusing resources and creative recycling! Inspired by the ever-flying plastic bags here in Sri Lanka, rice & carry bags wants to create awareness and secure a fair income to women on Sri Lanka’s east coast. In comparison to the wretched plastic bags the rice bags have always been reused for many

purposes from garbage bag to pannier. With our rice & carry bags we want to improve this approach and create a thoughtful souvenir or gift. They are made by local ladies of the area around Arugam Bay and we hope to contribute to secure an income especially for women of Sri Lanka’s east coast. The bags are mostly done in homework so the women can decide themselves when and how much they want to work. We hope you enjoy our idea and find our bags a worthy souvenir from this beautiful island.

Now we have a serious problem
