During the we joined the world in the global call to create a period friendly world. We held an event at Rota Comprehensive school in Kisumu West where we reaffirmed that menstrual health is a matter of human rights, dignity and equality.
We were joined by Freshlife Kisumu, KUAP and the County Government of Kisumu. The day featured interactive sessions with both girls and boys on navigating menstrual hygiene practices. Emphasis was placed on the importance of upholding period dignity and breaking the silence around menstruation to help create a period-friendly space for the girls.
In this era of information overload among young learners, we took time to educate and sensitize the pupils on s*x education. The County Public Health Officer Dr. Ongwara informed the learners about the triple threats within our communities that continue to affect many young people, leading to school dropouts due to uncontrolled s*xual engagements.
The event culminated with donations of sanitary essentials, soap, and refreshments. The noble act of providing these essentials brought smiles, confidence, and reassurance to many of the learners.
Through such collaborations, KIWASCO continues to demonstrate that access to WASH services goes hand in hand with empowering communities on health education, dignity, and care for the next generation.
