Cockroaches
Cockroaches have long whippish antennae, flat oval bodies with a rapid, jerky walk. The adults are light yellowy/brown and about 10 to 24mm long. They rarely survive outdoors, but thrive around buildings clustering around pipes, stoves, and sinks. Generally, they are nocturnal.
Cockroaches will feed on almost anything, including waste, fabric, faeces and food stuffs. They require access to water, and are generally found in inaccessible harborages. They can survive for several months without food, but can not survive for the same period without water.
Cockroaches can contaminate food, utensils, and preparation surfaces. They taint food with an obnoxious smell and can be vectors of disease, capable of hosting organisms that can cause food poisoning.
Use of Insecticides is the most common method used in the Control of cockroaches. This can be tricky mostly because of the complications in reaching hidden areas. The insecticide, should have sufficient persistence to eliminate nymphs hatching later from un-hatched egg capsules, which if not properly addressed, may cause a recurrence.
