「必要なもの」と「欲しいもの」。この2つは本来全く異なるものですが、ときには同じ答えを指し示すことがあります。
今回のマクラーレン600LTスパイダーはその良い例です。お客様はこの車でサーキット走行やロングドライブを楽しまれる予定ですが、そのような環境ではこの車でふんだんに使用されているカーボン製パーツが損傷されるリスクが懸念されます。一方で、純正のホワイトからリフレッシュも希望されていました。
そこで選ばれたのが、マットブラックのカラーPPFです。ボディを保護するという「必要性」と、スタイルを一新するという「希望」の両方を満たす最適な選択となりました。
言うまでもありませんが、スーパーカーでサーキットを走ること自体は必須ではありません。しかし、カラープロテクションフィルムは通常のグロスPPFやマットPPFと同等の保護性能を備えており、愛車を積極的に走らせたい方にとって非常に価値のある施工です。それに加えてクルマの印象を大きく変えることができるのであれば、選ばない理由はありません。

There are things you need and things you want. They’re completely opposing concepts but there are times when both point toward the same thing.
This is a prime example of that. This McLaren 600LT Spider didn’t need to look like an experimental stealth fighter, but the owner is planning on regularly taking it to track days and road trips which risks the paint and the exposed carbon parts turning into very expensive repair bills. He also wanted to give it a new look from its original white color, so a matte black PPF just so happened to meet both his needs and wants.
No, taking a supercar on a track day isn’t exactly a necessity, but color PPF still provides all the protection that the standard gloss and matte PPF offers so it’s definitely something worth doing if driving your car is in your plans. And when it can give your car a whole new look, why not?

では、日本はどうでしょうか。ここには史上最も信頼されてきた車のひとつとも言える「トヨタ・ランドクルーザー」があります。探検活動や人道支援、さらには国連関係者の安全を支えるなど、その役割と歴史は非常に幅広いものです。他の車のような派手さはないかもしれませんが、ランドクルーザーはより長く走り続け、オーナーと共に時を重ねていく存在です。
では、そのランドクルーザーの信頼性に高級感や品格を加えたらどうなるのでしょうか。その答えがレクサスの「GX」です。ベースとなるランドクルーザー譲りの堅牢な基本性能を持ちながら、上質なホテルの客室さえ物足りなく感じるほどの快適性とラグジュアリーさを兼ね備えています。さらに本格的なオフロード性能も備えており、目立った欠点がほとんど見当たらない一台です。

Every major country famous for its automobiles has a world-famous off-roader. Germany has the venerable Mercedes “Gelandewagen” (or G-Wagon for short), Britain has the sophisticated Range Rover, and America has the iconic Jeep Wrangler.
What about Japan? Well, we have the Toyota Land Cruiser which is perhaps the most relied upon vehicle of all time. Anything from explorations, human aid, and protecting the members of the UN is a part of its job and history. It’s not as much of a status symbol or a style icon as its equivalents, but a Land Cruiser will probably outlast them and its owner. It is a Toyota, after all.
So what happens when you take all of that and add in the prestige or the luxury that the others have? Then you end up with a Lexus GX. It has all the core components of the Land Cruiser it’s based upon, but with all the plushness and comfort to make a well-appointed hotel room feel inadequate. Combine it with the off-road prowess and it becomes a car with very few things that need changing.
The owner of this example asked us to apply our Matte PPF and it was definitely a good choice. Not only does it give the car so much more presence, but it also lets the owner enjoy the off-road capability if need or want be. And though it may never need to drive over a patch of grass in its life, same is possible for the other off-roaders and this looks much more intriguing. Maybe it’s not far from becoming the icon of Japan.

法律や規制はデザインや創造性を制限してしまうものが大半ですが、ときにその制約が新たなスタイルを生み出すこともあります。
その代表例が「911タルガ」です。「タルガ」は既存ラインアップにあったカブリオレの派生モデルとして誕生したのではなく、本来はその代替として開発されました。1960年代、アメリカ政府では新たな横転の安全基準の導入が検討されており、事実上オープンカーが禁止される可能性がありました。そこでポルシェが導き出した答えが、規制に対応するロールバーを備えながら、取り外し式ルーフによって開放感も両立する新しいスタイルでした。こうして「タルガ」は誕生したのです。
結果としてその規制は正式導入されず、「タルガ」は一時的にラインアップから姿を消してしまいました。しかし991型の登場時に電動開閉式ルーフ機構と象徴的なロールバーを携えて華々しく復活を遂げます。911の中では決して主流ではありませんが、常に全体の約15%を占める人気を維持しています。GTモデルほどハードコアではなく、それでいて911にもう少し華やかさやドラマ性を求める方に選ばれる存在です。
今回の992.1型 タルガ4Sには、 のCrystal Serum Ultraをボディへ施工し、ホイールとインテリアにもコーティングを施しました。スタイル性を重視したモデルだからこそ、その美しさをさらに引き立てるために必要不可欠な施工とも言えます。万人向けの選択肢ではないかもしれませんが、この美しさを前にして惹かれない人を探す方が難しいかもしれません。

While laws and restrictions often hinder design and creativity, there are cases where it actually gives birth to a new style.
Case in point, the 911 Targa. This wasn’t born to be an unorthodox alternative to the Cabriolet that already existed in the lineup, but a full replacement of it. In the 1960s, the US government was planning to introduce a new rollover safety regulation that would effectively ban convertibles. Porsche’s answer was to install a roll bar that would meet those regulations but still give the drivers an open-air experience, along with a removable roof panel. That was how the “Targa” was born.
In the end, that regulation was never made official and the Targa faded into the background. But it made a full comeback with the 991-generation with a mesmerizing fully-electric roof mechanism and that iconic roll bar. It’s not the most common choice for 911s, but with its sales usually accounting for 15% of the model, it’s not a small portion either. It’s for those who want a 911 but with a bit more flair and theater without resorting to the hardcore GT models.
This 992.1 Targa 4S had a full refresh with ’s Crystal Serum Ultra on the body and coating for the wheels and the interior. And for a model that’s more focused on style, that is more than a worthwhile investment. Perhaps it’s not meant to be the choice of a majority, but when it looks this good, it’ll be hard to find no one who wouldn’t want it.

車のボディを守るには簡単なカーカバーからセラミックコーティング、PPFまで多種多様の方法があります。ですが、保護するのと同時にちょっとしたリフレッシュも可能だったらいかがでしょうか。
それを可能にするのが「カラーPPF」です。通常のラッピングとは違ってフィルム自体に高い保護性能があり、飛び石や傷などのダメージから塗装を守ります。更に一般的なPPFのようにグロスやマットだけでなく、多彩なカラーや仕上がりを選べるのも魅力です。
今回ご来店したポルシェ911 カレラSはカラーPPFの施工にピッタリの1台でした。比較的低走行かつオーナー様の日頃の丁寧なメンテナンスのおかげで、約20年近い年月を感じさせないコンディションを維持しています。その状態を守る価値があるのはもちろん、少し印象を変えられるのもカラーPPFならではの特権です。今回のカラーは 997型の限定仕様「Sport Classic」にインスパイアされたもので、純正のキャララホワイトから大きく変化してはいないものの、分かる人にはしっかり伝わる絶妙な仕上がりとなっています。

This is color PPF. Unlike standard wrapping, the film has a protective quality that prevents any damage. And unlike normal PPF, there are more choices than just gloss and matte finishes. It’s very much the “having your cake and eating it” choice.
This Porsche 911 Carrera S is a great example the type of car that would benefit from something like this. While it may not look it, the relatively low mileage and the owner’s routine care hides the fact that it’s nearly 20-years-old very well. So it’s a worthwhile investment to keep it that way but being able to give it a bit of a change is a welcome addition. The owner was inspired by the Type-997 Sport Classic for the color choice, and although it’s not the biggest change from the original Carrara White, those who know will definitely know.

ここ数年でSUVやクロスオーバーが大きなトレンドとなっていますが、販売されているその多くは何らかの形でランドローバーの存在に由来していると言えます。初代レンジローバーはオンロードでの快適性とオフロード性能を高次元で両立する現代的なSUVの礎を築き上げ、イヴォークはそのコンセプトを都会向けのパッケージへと昇華させ、多くの他モデルが再現できていない独自の魅力を実現しています。
ディスカバリーは他モデルと比べると本格的なオフローダーではありませんが、日常で遭遇するあらゆるシーンに十分対応できる性能を備えています。特に7人乗り仕様が選べる点を考慮すると、実用性・走破性・価格のバランスにおいて、これに匹敵する選択肢はほとんどないと言えるでしょう。決して安価な車ではありませんが、オフロード性能を備えた7人乗りモデルの多くはその倍程度の価格帯になることが一般的です。

While SUVs and crossovers are the biggest trend of the past few years, nearly all of them on sale today partially owe their existence to a Land Rover of some sort. The first Range Rover gave birth to the modern SUV that balances on-road manners and off-road prowess, and the Evoque took that and made it into a city-friendly package that most others have failed to recreate.
The Discovery isn’t an all-out, go anywhere off-roader like the other models in its lineup, but it’s still more than capable enough to deal with anything you may encounter on a daily basis. Especially considering that it can be had as a 7-seater, there’s very few, if any, alternatives that has the same balance of practicality, capability, and price. It’s not a cheap car by any means, but most off-road capable 7-seaters would usually cost around twice as much.
This example was formerly owned by a dealer for test drives, but after our meticulous polishing process and with the help of ’s Crystal Serum Light, we’d argue that it’s never looked better since new. The Firenze Red paint has been revitalized after its long stint at the dealer and it’s ready to serve as the daily driver of the new owner, looking flawless while doing so.

BMWの「Individual」プログラムは比較的知られていないものの、その魅力は決して劣りません。「デイトナ・バイオレット」や「ダカール・イエロー」のような大胆なカラーから、「サン・マリノブルー」や「ストーン・グレー」といった落ち着いた色合いまで、さらには他メーカーのカラーまで幅広く選択可能です。

There’s no shortage of car manufacturers offering you personalization programs these days. Porsche’s Paint-To-Sample (PTS) is the most famous of them, but all of them give you that hint of uniqueness on your very expensive purchase.
BMW’s “Individual” program is a lesser-known program, but it’s no less appealing. From bold colors like Daytona Violet and Dakar Yellow to subtle shades like San Marino Blue and Stone Grey are available, as well as colors from other manufacturers.
This X7 M60i wears its Manhattan Metallic color with plenty of subtlety and a dash of uniqueness for those who know. It may be named after a district in New York, but it fits the streets of Tokyo more than well enough. The owner had just bought it used and in a very nice condition, so he asked for our strongest ceramic coating: Crystal Serum Ultra. 「スポーツカー」と考えたらコルベットは最初に思い浮かぶものではないかもしれません。魅力はシンプルさ、低く唸るアメリカンV8サウンド、そして格上の高級車に劣らない性能を比較的手頃な価格で味わえることでした。
しかし、このC4型ZR-1は、そのどれにも当てはまりません。20年ぶりに完全に新設計され、DOHCのおかげでアメリカ車らしからぬ高回転型のV8を搭載し、価格はベースモデルの2倍ですがまで跳ね上がりました。性能も同じく跳ね上がり、同等の性能を誇っていた格上車はミラーの中に置き去りになりました。
この個体には、APRのフロントリップやWilwood製ブレーキ、BBSホイールをはじめ、各所に本格的なアフターパーツが装着されています。最早「普通のコルベット」ではないからこそ、当店による@gtechniq_japanのCrystal Serum LightとEXOv5の施工と共にポリッシングで傷を取り除き、コーティングで保護性能を高めたこの車はどんなシーンでも美しく走り抜ける準備ができています。

Outside of America, the Corvette has always been an unorthodox choice if you wanted a sports car. Its main appeal is that it was simple, had that low rumbling American V8 sound, and it was reasonably priced for the performance. You could keep up with exotics without having to deal with whatever those brands decided that you had to.
The C4 ZR-1 was none of those things. It was brand-new from the ground up for the first time in 20 years, the Lotus-developed V8 revved like nothing else from America thanks to the DOHC design, it was double the price of a base Corvette, and the exotics you were keeping up with are now in your rear-view mirror.
This particular example has some serious aftermarket parts on it, like the APR front lip, Wilwood brakes, BBS wheels, and a few custom pieces all around the car. It’s definitely not a normal Corvette, so it definitely deserves getting some protection with ’s Crystal Serum Light and EXOv5 on top. With all the scratches removed after our polishing process and the protective qualities of the coating, this American icon is ready to enjoy whatever comes its way and look good while doing so.

新型ホンダ・プレリュードは、「値段が５割増のシビック」と要約できます。
確かに共通パーツは多くその見方にも一理ありますが、同時にいささか短絡的だとも言えます。プレリュードは元来上品で快適なクルーザーでありつつ、ワインディングではしっかり楽しめるクルマとして作られています。サーキットで最速を狙う存在ではなく、その役割はシビックやインテグラの方が適しています。
この新型も同じ考え方です。FL5型シビック タイプR譲りのサスペンションを持ちながらも、サーキットでコンマ1秒を削ることが重要ならそもそもハイブリッドであることが間違いです。プレリュードに大切なのは、スタイリッシュで快適、そして日常で扱いやすいことです。
そう考えると、お客様がこの「メタリック・ブラックローズ」のカラーを選んだことにも合点がいきます。このクルマに驚くほどよく似合っていて、なぜホンダが純正カラーとして用意していないのか不思議に思えるほどです。

It’s easy to sum up the new Honda Prelude as a two-door version of a Civic Hybrid with a much higher price.
There is some validity to that since it does share a lot of components with that car, but it’s also missing the point. The Prelude was built to be a well-mannered cruiser that can be fun when the going gets twisty. It wasn’t meant to be the fastest around a racetrack because a Civic or an Integra would do that job better.
This new one is the same. It may have the suspension from the FL5 Civic Type R, but if it cared about being at the top of the timing sheets, it wouldn’t be anywhere near as complicated as it is. It’s about being stylish, comfortable, and generally easy to live with. And when you look at it like that, you start to understand why our client chose this “Metallic Black Rose” wrap. It suits the car so well that it makes you wonder why Honda doesn’t offer a color like it from the factory.

先週ご紹介したM8グランクーペのディテールショットをもう少し。
施工が完了した姿を見ていると、BMWが今年でこのモデルの生産を終了する決断をした理由が不思議に思えます。ビジネスである以上、販売台数がそこまで伸びなければ切り落とすのが理にかなっていることですが、それでも別れを迎えるのはやはり寂しいものです。
特にマットPPF施工を施したこの一台は、同じようなオーラを持つ車を思い浮かべるのが難しいほどです。ベースとなる2ドアクーペより全長は長いものの、プロポーションに違和感は一切なく、不自然なほどに自然な佇まいを備えています。通常のクーペよりこちらを好む人がいてもおかしくありません。
いつかBMWがこうしたデザインに立ち返る日が来るかもしれませんが、来るとしてもそれは一朝一夕にはいかないでしょう。それまではこの残り少ない美しさをじっくり堪能しましょう。

A few more detail shots of the M8 Gran Coupe we featured last week.
After looking at the finished car, it made us wonder why BMW decided to stop production this year for what’s probably the most beautiful car in their lineup. It is a business at the end of the day and the sales numbers aren’t probably that high for a car this niche, but it’s still a shame that it’ll be waving us goodbye.
Especially after our matte PPF treatment, it’s hard to think of a car that has a similar aura. Even though this Gran Coupe is longer than the 2-door Coupe it’s based on, nothing about its proportions stand out in a negative way. It’s so natural that we bet there are people who prefer this to the standard Coupe.
Maybe BMW can come back to designs like this some day, but it won’t be soon. Until then, let’s take in what’s probably the best-looking BMW of the modern times.
