ADC launches poster for Kanwar Yatra at Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, AUGUST 05: Additional Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Prem Singh today unveiled the poster of the Kanwar Yatra in his office chamber in the presence of the organisers.

The event was attended by Chairman of NGO Karam Karte Chalo, Vikas Kumar, along with Deepak Verma, Rakesh Dubey and Kuldeep Sharma.

The organisers informed that the Kanwar Yatra shall commence from Dandyal Shani Mandir, Ward No. 21 on August 7, 2026.

The ADC congratulated the organisers for their efforts in organising the religious yatra from Udhampur. He extended his best wishes for the successful and safe conduct of the pilgrimage and prayed for a peaceful and spiritually enriching journey for all devotees.

ADC Udhampur reviews arrangements for Independence Day celebration

UDHAMPUR, AUGUST 04: Additional Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Prem Singh today chaired a meeting of officers from various line departments to review and finalize arrangements for the smooth and successful celebration of Independence Day, 2026 at the district headquarter.

The meeting was attended by GM, DIC, Kishore Singh Katoch, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Dr. Umesh Shan, Chief Planning Officer, Uttam Singh, besides other district officers.

A detailed review was conducted of all essential arrangements, including seating, barricading, security, traffic regulation, drinking water, uninterrupted power supply, sanitation, first-aid facilities, public address system, fire tenders, magisterial duties, refreshments, illumination and transportation.

It was decided that the main Independence Day function would be held at Government PG Degree College Boys. The celebrations shall commence with the playing of Shehnai Vadan by the Information Department.

Addressing the meeting, the ADC stressed the need for close coordination among all departments to ensure the grand and dignified celebration of the national festival. He directed the concerned officers to put all necessary arrangements in place well in advance. He called upon all officers and employees to remain present at the venue on the day of the function.

Executive Engineers of PWD, Jal Shakti and PDD were directed to ensure proper seating arrangements, barricading, adequate drinking water facilities and uninterrupted power supply at the venue, while Municipal authorities were instructed to maintain cleanliness in the town as well as at the function venue.

Regarding first-aid arrangements, the Chief Medical Officer was directed to deploy an ambulance along with a team of doctors and adequate medicines at the venue till the conclusion of the function.

District Police and Traffic Police were asked to make comprehensive security and traffic management arrangements for the smooth conduct of the celebrations.

To ensure seamless ex*****on of the event, various committees, including the Reception Committee, Illumination Committee and other functional committees, were also constituted and assigned specific responsibilities for the successful celebration of Independence Day 2026.

Mega behavioural change campaign under Clean Himalayan initiative launched at Patnitop

UDHAMPUR, AUGUST 03: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Minga Sherpa, a comprehensive behavioural change campaign under the Clean Himalayan and Hill Cities Initiative was officially launched today at the tourist resort Patnitop.

The grand launch event was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh in presence of IAS Probationer Dr Shagun Singh, SDM Chenani, Dr Ranjeet Singh Kotwal, Tehsildar Chenani Pankaj Singh and Accounts Officer Patnitop Development Authority Ashok Gupta, senior officials and representatives from other line departments, marking a coordinated administrative effort toward environmental sustainability in the region.

The launch was followed by a comprehensive Stakeholders Conference that witnessed enthusiastic participation from local hoteliers, shopkeepers, pony wallas and taxi operators.

During the conference, stakeholders were given detailed insights into the scope, goals and implementation strategy of the Behavioural Change Campaign under the Clean Himalayan and Hill Cities Initiative (CHHCI) tailored specifically for Patnitop. The project focuses on fostering sustainable solid waste management practices, eliminating single use plastics, enforcing strict source segregation of garbage and cultivating a sense of collective eco responsibility among both the local business community and visiting tourists.

The officials highlighted that the primary objective of CHHCI is to preserve the fragile Himalayan ecosystem by shifting public habits through active community engagement, capacity building and regular field campaigns. The objective of the Clean Himalaya & Green Initiative is to protect the Himalayan environment through cleanliness, afforestation, responsible waste management, water conservation and active public participation, ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

As part of the launch event, a mega cleanliness drive was also held at the Patnitop Meadow, in which all departmental officers and officials along with local stakeholders actively participated to clear litter and set an immediate example of community action.

It was officially announced during the event that a structured, day to day schedule of awareness drives, monitoring activities and cleanliness initiatives has been formulated, which shall continue uninterrupted up to August 15, 2026. Under this daily roadmap, dedicated teams will conduct door to door awareness in commercial hubs, train service providers like pony wallas, Hospitality staff on trail sanitation and ensure strict compliance with waste disposal guidelines.

The district administration appealed to all commercial establishments, local unions and visitors to extend complete cooperation to ensure Patnitop emerges as a national benchmark for clean and sustainable hill station tourism.

Indian Red Cross Society organises drug de-addiction awareness programme at GDC Ramnagar

UDHAMPUR, AUGUST 01: The Indian Red Cross Society J&K, in collaboration with the District Red Cross Society Udhampur and Government Degree College Ramnagar today organised a drug de-addiction awareness programme under the theme Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life at GDC Ramnagar.

Principal of the College, Dr D. S Manhas was the chief guest, while Secretary District Red Cross Society Udhampur presided over the programme.

The programme was attended by S.L Bhardwaj, Secretary, District Red Cross Society Udhampur; Ashok Chandel from the Indian Red Cross Society, J&K, tehsil-level officers, faculty members, staff and a large number of students.

The chief guest highlighted the growing menace of substance abuse and stressed the pivotal role of youth in building a drug-free society. Students were encouraged to actively participate in awareness campaigns and serve as ambassadors of positive change by spreading the anti-drug message among their peers, families and communities.

Resource persons Dr. Manpreet Kour and Vormica Marbha from the Indian Red Cross Society, J&K sensitised the students about the harmful effects of drug abuse. They elaborated on the social, economic and health consequences of addiction and urged the youth to adopt a healthy, responsible and drug-free lifestyle.
