Branded cashew nut sellers may be forced to raise prices soon due to the continued increase in prices of imported raw nuts.

Retail cashew prices have risen about 15% to more than Rs 700 per kg in recent days, but traders said a further revision is likely in the prices of the nut which has become a popular gift item and an essential ingredient of sweet dishes and cookies.

On RCN imported from IVC in 2016: The quality of RCN from IVC was very good in 2014. During that
year, cargoes were well-dried and out turn were higher at 46 - 48. However, in 2015 and 2016, high
moisture was the main issue. Cargo needs to be well-dried preferably at farm-level. Second, quality of
jute bags used was very poor. Most of them are torn. It increased the unloading time significantly at the
destination ports. Care needs to be taken to ensure new jute bags are used.

Why is Raw Cashew Nut in Shell trade is so volatile.Prices of Tanzania were high upto USD 1600/MT CNF but prices from West Africa is as low as USD 800/MT CNF.

Which of the fallowing are the most strong factor for such volatile phenomenon:
1) Market is having shortage of funds during season of West Africa?
2) India and Vietnam makes the cartel and takes West African market for ride?

Cashew farmers are all smiles as raw nut prices have touched Rs 102 a kg in select markets of Goa and Kerala. Traders say this is the highest ever season opening price in the history of the trade.

Around the same time last year, raw cashew nut prices had touched Rs 95 a kg and then dropped to Rs 83 a kg. The trigger for the steep spike in prices this year is short supply. In Kerala, farm gate prices are between Rs 94 and Rs 97 a kg.

“Normally, prices will be high at the beginning of the season and decline as harvesting progresses. This year, it is unlikely to see a big fall as there is a shortage of material even in Tanzania and West African markets,” said G Giridhar Prabhu, a Mangaluru-based exporter and former vice-chairman of the Cashew Export Promotion Council of India.

Raw Cashew Nuts - Are they Really Raw?

Cashew nuts are one of my favorite nuts on this planet. Unfortunetly, most cashew nuts labeled "raw cashew nuts" are not truly "raw". They have been heat processed in order to remove the delicious nut from the toxic shell.

You may ask why they label it "raw".. I have often thought of the very same questions. Most companies label it "raw" because to them, the nut has "not" been processed, ie: roasted. Although in the process of removing the actual shell, the nut has been very processed...usually steamed and boiled in oil! So until recently I have pretty much avoided purchasing raw cashew nuts. I have been enjoying in-shell macadamia nuts, which are my all time favorite nut. When purchasing mac nuts, its important to purchase them in the shell. Once the nut has been out of the shell, many go rancid.
