While I was studying in the university, I observed a problem and understood that there is lot of potential in organized laundry segment. I had it in the back of my mind. But, it was not my immediate priority. I wanted to work and gain experience in the corporate industry. After working for few years, I wanted to start working on my dream.
I came to Nizamabad in 2017 with a dream to transform the process and change the system of laundry Industry in tier II cities. And I had a passion to improve living standards of people through quality services. I din’t know how to wash my clothes but started washing clothes of customers. Lot of problems came from customer side as we didn’t understand Lenin and fabric, along with me my team was educated but unskilled. Every day we used to read articles in Google and implemented the same but it didn’t help us. No skilled labor for stream ironing. Business was shut down for two months and we all went for training as I was very adamant on process.
After the training and decided to tackle each problem steadily and started capturing business segment wise first beauty salons then hotels, education institutions, industry, transportation, theater and also domestic customers. Still we didn't know few things As we were not using proper phase electricity, the department fined us for 80k. That’s when I connected to TiE nizamabad. it helped me in documentation, networking. And also increased my business.
People in nizamabad didn’t see laundry as profitable and process oriented business. They know it as dhobis work. There is a cultural stigma in this business. I dared to make a change. We blame our parents for not seeing the change; it’s for us youngsters aiming new highs as this is a new India and a young India.
All I had an idea to start with. Lack of money or lack of parent’s education can’t be a reason not to take an initiative. Though I don’t have required knowledge I moved in this venture. For change to happen I worked together professionally and personally. Change never comes to you but it follows you.
I stream-lined the laundry business. As an entrepreneur I created an ecosystem which got me a contract from Govt for my laundry services ’I Approached Professionally with a project file and made them understand. Today we are working with 25+ commercial customers and 70+ domestic customers with the net profit of initial 5 digits.
Value of business:
It’s my customers who made this enterprise a happening. If I took their remark as a criticism or even as sarcasm I wouldn’t have made this.
The happiness on customer face is more valued for me than the money they paid. We should stop running for greed and value service more.
Take away:
Anything new, “always comes with its own fears”. Avoiding it we are making a biggest mistake of our life I don't fight with what I fear. doing anything out-of – box in this country, there a is cultural and moral stalemate..(They say “yeh chalta kya?”. “yeh hota kya ?”) . This very attitude de-motivates you. Even though there are setbacks, continuous efforts will lead to success.
