Today, India marks 73 years of freedom. Not only is it an occasion to commemorate, but it also reminds us to be responsible and respectful citizens. It is the day when we ought to pay tribute to the sacrifices and bravery of our servicemen and soldiers protecting the nation.
We at Utthaan strive to make India free from the shackles of social evils that exist in the society, to achieve freedom in a more holistic sense.

With the entire world caught in a whirlwind due to the Covid-19 pandemic, more and more issues are arising day by day. Amongst numerous other problems, the plastic pollution due to improper disposal of masks is increasing at an alarming rate. Around 75% of the used masks, as well as other pandemic-related waste, is ending up in landfills, or floating in the seas. Like all battles, this one needs to be fought too.

Doctors, policemen and civic workers are doing everything they can for our safety, and here's our chance to work towards nature's safety. Making sure that our masks are disposed off properly is one of the smallest acts of kindness towards the environment.

India is home to six crore alcohol addicts, more than the population of 172 world nations, including Italy. 56% of the people living in slum communities in India are victims of substance and alcohol abuse.

These facts are scary but what's even scarier is the extent of damage that drug addiction can cause to one’s body and mind.

UN witnesses the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to emphasize the need to improve the understanding of the world drug problem and how greater cooperation can save those affected.

Let's reaffirm our commitment to a drug abuse-free society and value ourselves, making and propagating healthy choices against drug abuse!

The outbreak of COVID-19 has created a global health crisis that has had a deep impact on the way we perceive our world and our everyday lives. Not only has it created a sense of looming danger and uncertainty, it has become a bearer of bad news for migrant workers in the entire country.

Due to this prevailing pandemic, many migrant workers are facing dire conditions with regard to food, shelter, access to proper healthcare facilities. However, The Government of India, is taking numerous measures to make it easier for each and every person to feel secure.

From facilitating free food and accommodation to setting up various camps, the government is trying its best with the limited resources to ease the situation. What they need, in return, is OUR SUPPORT to strengthen their fight against COVID 19 and keep each and every citizen healthy.

Stocked refrigerators and safe shelters are big blessings to have, especially in such testing times.

However, not everyone has enough means. Some of us are privileged but what really matters is what we make of that privilege.

If each one of us contributes in our own little ways then we can together reach out to the millions of people who have been left without livelihood, food and shelter. Our collective efforts can help arm thousands hit by despair to fight this pandemic.

The Covid-19 outbreak has affected all segments of the population and has proved the most detrimental for the vulnerable sections including homeless people, daily wage workers, migrant labourers, older persons and poor people.

We belong to the privileged slice of society that we have a roof over your head and ample food in these tough times. The plight of these people put things in a different perspective, one which is not acknowledged by the society.

This Labour Day, we pay our tribute to all the essential workers who work tirelessly to make our lives easier and safer. Their hardwork is truly inspiring. They are the reason our lives are still going on smoothly, because they owned up to the responsibility of doing everything they can in this fight against the pandemic.
They are truly the backbone of our society.

Let's be grateful for their work, not just today, not just during the pandemic, but for all years to come because they deserve every bit of it.
