Termites are wood-consuming insects that feed on cellulose found in wood and other plants. The pests' tendency to move along the edges of objects such as tree roots, pavement, building foundations, pipes, and conduits helps them gain access to food. Rather than attacking a single point in the home, termite colonies spread out looking for vulnerable support beams, walls, floors, and any other suitable source of wood. Termite invasions in homes go unnoticed for long periods of time. Once colonies are established deep inside the structure, termites can stay permanently without being noticed by the homeowner. In summary, termite diets may lead to the destruction of buildings, typically resulting in the need for costly repairs.
