I was asked to write a little about County Dry Cleaners for social media. I used to work there and call in now from time to time. Here's what I see...
Between rows of sharp suits, hand finished shirts, delicately cleaned dresses and well pressed laundry there is so much more happening.
I often call early knowing that both Joe and Loretta are early birds. The shop door is watched and ready to open early for anyone wanting the convenience of a before work drop off. “Do you want it back this evening? We’re here until 6.”
A tourist walks in. He’d left laundry the day before after getting soaked. I heard him thank staff for the quick turn around time and for the pub recommendations for where to try a proper Guinness. He stood, he laughed and got to experience a little local chat and left with another recommendation to try the local Kinnegar brew. “Thanks for the time, this is the Irish everyone told us about.”
Next, a local elderly woman comes through the door. She's not there with dry cleaning. She just can't get her phone to work and needs to make a call. The shop is busy, there are rails full of clothes waiting to be sorted, but someone stops what they're doing, tops up her credit and helps her make the call.
"Thank you," she says. "I didn't know what to do."
Another customer comes in with black suits for a funeral. “We're sorry for your loss. Are those for the funeral? Don’t be coming back to collect, we’ll deliver it out to you. Let us know if you need anything else.”
Minor team jerseys come in for laundry. The County Dry Cleaners logo on the side of the bag. Time for a quick chat about how the team is doing, who the rising stars are and how they'll do this season. “We like to sponsor the odd team to encourage the young ones.”
None of these things are a big deal. They happen countless times anytime I am in the premises. No big gestures, no song and dance. Just a business caring for it’s community. Well done Joe, Loretta and team for making County Dry Cleaners everything that a local business should be.
