Zoomlion Ghana Limited is a giant in the waste management as well as environmental sanitation business in Ghana and Africa as a whole. The company was formed under the company’s Act in January 2006.The company which was formed in 2006 as Zoomlion Ghana Limited with a few numbers of staff has now grown over the past seven years. It now has a total core staff of 3,000 and manages over 85,000 workers under various forms of Public Private Partnerships (PPP). Zoomlion also operates in other African countries such as Togo, Angola, Zambia and Equatorial Guinea and Liberia while negotiations are far advanced for the company to start operations in other African countries such as Sierra Leone, Southern Sudan . The Parliamentary Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources has expressed satisfaction with the progress of Zoomlion Ghana’s Integrated Recycling & Compost Plant Limited at Yabram, near Dambai, in the Oti Region.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. John Oti Bless, called for increased government and stakeholder support for recycling and sustainable waste management initiatives, while commending Zoomlion Ghana for its contribution to Ghana’s sanitation efforts.

He also urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to strengthen the enforcement of sanitation by-laws and called for collective action among stakeholders to achieve a cleaner and healthier Ghana.

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources has visited the Ho Integrated Recycling & Compost Plant Limited (IRECOP) as part of its monitoring tour of the Volta and Oti regions.

The Committee toured the facility, assessed its waste processing and recycling operations, and engaged management on key interventions needed to strengthen sustainable waste management.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. John Oti Bless also commended the Volta Region as the cleanest among the regions visited by the Committee so far.

It then challenged participants to work effectively across cultures, apply commercial judgement, understand contracts and personal accountability, and think strategically beyond immediate tasks.

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources has visited the Integrated Recycling & Compost Plant Limited(IRECOP) at Akrofu-Agorve in the Ho Municipality as part of its monitoring tour of sanitation and waste management facilities in the Volta and Oti regions.

Led by its Chairman, Hon. John Oti Bless, who is also the Member of Parliament for Nkwanta North, the Committee was briefed on the facility’s operations, including waste processing, recycling and compost production. Hon. Oti Bless commended the Volta Region for its sanitation standards, describing it as the cleanest among the eight regions the Committee had visited so far.

During the engagement, the Head of Government Relations and Corporate Affairs of the Environmental Sanitation Cluster of the Jospong Group of Companies Ms. Betty Brown Nyadu, highlighted some of the key operational challenges confronting the facility, including poor access to the plant and the need for strategically located waste transfer stations. She also called for policy interventions to promote the use of locally produced compost and other recycled materials.

Hon. Oti Bless assured management that the concerns raised would be captured in the Committee’s report to Parliament and subsequently referred to the relevant authorities for consideration and appropriate action.

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has undertaken a two-day disinfection and disinfestation exercise across selected public facilities in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality as part of efforts to protect public health.

The exercise covered markets, lorry parks, public toilets, refuse container sites and other public spaces, targeting mosquitoes, flies and other disease vectors that could contribute to malaria, cholera and typhoid, particularly during the rainy season.

Western North Regional Manager of Zoomlion, Mr. Richison Nii Ayi Reindorf, said the exercise was fully funded by the company as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

Regional Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Paul Kwesi Nutsugah, commended the intervention and encouraged residents to maintain clean surroundings, dispose of waste responsibly and eliminate stagnant water to help sustain the gains made.

Strengthening Partnerships for a Cleaner, Healthier Central Region

As part of her ongoing nationwide stakeholder engagement drive, which is one of Zoomlion’s five (5) key strategic pillars, Managing Director Mrs. Doris Kweikwor Adjei led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere, in Cape Coast.

The engagement provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between Zoomlion and the Central Regional Coordinating Council in advancing effective waste management, improving environmental sanitation, and promoting sustainable development across the region.

The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga has announced plans to mobilise state and private-sector resources for the evacuation of accumulated waste at Jamestown in Accra.

During a technical assessment of the site on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Hon. Ayariga said trucks, excavators, bulldozers and loaders would be mobilised to support the exercise. Technical teams from Zoomlion Ghana Limited are also deploying drone technology to determine the volume of waste and provide data on the number of trucks, trips and logistics required for the evacuation.

The exercise follows the Minister’s three-day assessment of key waste management facilities, including Accra Compost And Recycling Plant (ACARP), Achimota and Jamestown Waste Transfer Stations, Zoomlion Transfer Station Kpone Landfill and the Adipa Engineered Landfill at Nsawam.

Hon. Ayariga said government would work with public and private-sector partners to address the immediate challenge while pursuing longer-term reforms to strengthen Ghana’s waste management system and prevent future accumulation.

Minister Announces Major Waste Evacuation Exercise for Jamestown

The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Mahama Ayariga has announced plans to evacuate large volumes of accumulated waste from Jamestown, Accra, to the Adipa Waste Management Centre at Nsawam.

The announcement followed a working visit by the Minister to the facility, where he assessed its operational capacity and readiness to receive the waste.

The planned exercise comes after discussions with the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong who assured the Minister that the facility has the capacity to receive and manage the accumulated waste. The government has begun a technical assessment to establish the volume of waste at Jamestown and determine the number of trucks, equipment, personnel, and other logistics required to evacuate it efficiently.

Operations Manager of Waste Landfills Co. Ltd Richard Omane Mensah, said the Adipa facility operates 24 hours a day and can receive more than 3,000 tonnes of waste daily. He assured the government of the facility’s readiness to support the exercise.

The intervention forms part of broader efforts to tackle sanitation challenges in Accra and strengthen Ghana’s waste management system.
