Did you know?💡

Paper can be recycled up to seven times before the fibres become too short to be reused.

Recycling paper helps save trees, reduces water use and uses significantly less energy than producing new paper from raw materials.

Waste decomposes much faster in hot weather.

Higher temperatures speed up bacterial activity, meaning food waste and liquid effluent can begin producing stronger odours much more quickly than during cooler months. Heat can also attract more pests and increase the risk of hygiene issues if waste isn’t managed regularly.

That’s why summer is one of the busiest times of year for waste management, particularly for food producers, manufacturers and industrial sites.

A little forward planning goes a long way. If you’re expecting a busy summer, now’s the perfect time to review your waste collections and servicing schedule.

From colourful wildflower meadows to the familiar buzz of bees and butterflies, summer is one of the busiest times of year for our wildlife. Healthy habitats provide food, shelter and breeding grounds for countless species, helping nature thrive during the warmer months.

That’s why we’re proud to partner with the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust. Their work restoring wildflower meadows, planting trees, improving habitats and connecting people with nature is helping to protect Yorkshire’s landscapes for generations to come.

Every meadow restored and every habitat protected plays an important role in supporting biodiversity and creating a healthier environment for us all.

At Whitkirk, sustainability is about more than responsible waste management—it’s about supporting the places, wildlife and communities that make Yorkshire home. 💚

The Great Yorkshire Show – Supporting Yorkshire Agriculture 🚜

The Great Yorkshire Show is much more than a day out – it’s one of the UK’s most important agricultural events and a celebration of the people who keep our countryside thriving. It runs from Tuesday 14th July to Friday 17th July.

For generations, the show has brought together farmers, livestock breeders, agricultural businesses, food and drinks companies and rural communities to showcase the very best of Yorkshire farming. It’s an opportunity to share knowledge, embrace innovation, celebrate excellence, and inspire the next generation of agricultural professionals.

At Whitkirk Waste Solutions, we’re proud to be playing our part behind the scenes by supporting the dairy parlour operations and maintaining the drainage systems throughout the show. Our team is on hand to help keep essential facilities operating smoothly, ensuring exhibitors, livestock and visitors can enjoy a safe, clean, and successful event.

But that’s not all… you’ll also find us in the cattle lines exhibiting our pedigree Longhorn cattle. We’re incredibly proud to be showcasing these fantastic animals and celebrating Yorkshire’s rich farming heritage alongside fellow breeders from across the region and beyond.

Whether you’re visiting to enjoy the livestock, discover the latest in agriculture or simply soak up the atmosphere, we’d love to see you.

If you see a member of our team around the showground – give them a wave !

We’re proud to support Yorkshire’s agricultural community, not just during the Great Yorkshire Show but all year round through our specialist waste management, drainage, and environmental services.

When every minute counts, you need a team that can respond. 🚨

Waste emergencies don’t wait for a convenient time. A blocked drain, overflowing interceptor or full effluent tank can bring operations to a standstill, create environmental risks and cost your business valuable time.

That’s why Whitkirk provides a rapid emergency response service, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our experienced team and specialist fleet are ready to respond quickly, helping to get your site back up and running with as little disruption as possible.

We hope you never need us in an emergency... but if you do, we’ll be there.

💪 Strength. Resilience. Teamwork. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🔥

A huge congratulations to Jenni Austin and Phil Schofield, who took on the Total Warrior challenge at Bramham Park last weekend!

From muddy trenches and towering obstacles, fire, and water to relentless climbs and plenty of grit, they tackled every challenge over a gruelling 12 k course head-on with determination and a smile.

At Whitkirk Waste Solutions, those same qualities are what we bring to work every day. Whether it's responding to emergency call-outs, delivering complex drainage and tankering services, or solving challenging industrial waste issues, resilience, teamwork and determination are at the heart of everything we do.

We're incredibly proud of Jenni and Phil for representing the Whitkirk team so brilliantly. And even Phil’s wife Ellen stayed the course – congratulations to you all ! An outstanding achievement and a great reminder that the mindset needed to conquer Total Warrior is the same mindset that helps us deliver for our customers every day.

Well done, Jenni and Phil – you've done us all proud! 👏🎉

Now... who's brave enough to join you next year? 😄

Did you know?

Glass can be recycled again and again, forever… but if it ends up in landfill, it can take up to 4,000 years to decompose.

That’s why recycling glass properly is so important. Every bottle or jar that’s recycled reduces waste, saves raw materials and cuts down on energy use in production.

It’s a simple habit, but one that makes a lasting difference for generations to come.

When you’re buying a property, surveys usually focus on what you can see,the roof, walls, structure. But what about everything underground? 🏡

Drainage issues often go unnoticed until it’s too late. Cracked pipes, root ingress, blockages or even collapsed sections can sit hidden below the surface, leading to costly repairs after you’ve moved in.

A CCTV drain survey gives a clear picture of the condition of the system before you commit. It can highlight existing problems, potential risks and help avoid unexpected bills down the line or even support price negotiations.

It’s a small step in the buying process that can make a big difference later.
