Today would have been my Grandad Terry Allard’s 90th birthday.

Sadly, my dad, Steve, lost him at a very young age. Despite that, he carried forward everything Grandad had taught him and went on to build Steve Allard & Son Stonemasons from the ground up. Through hard work, determination and a passion for traditional craftsmanship, he created the family business that I’m now incredibly proud to run.

Grandad was a respected stonemason who ran the well-known Ben Davis of Hilton Road, and although I never had the chance to work alongside him, I feel connected to him every day through the trade that has been in our family for generations.

I’m honoured to be the sixth generation of Allard stonemasons. Every historic building we help conserve, every stone we hand carve and every project we complete carries a small part of our family’s history. It’s a legacy built over generations, and one that I’m determined to continue for the generations that follow.

Happy 90th Birthday, Grandad. Your name, your craftsmanship and the values you passed on still live on through our family and in every piece of stone we work.

Here’s to six generations of stonemasons—and to the generations still to come.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about working on structures that have stood for centuries.

We’re proud to have been entrusted with the conservation of the historic gate piers at Berkeley’s Hospital, Worcester, together with the carved bear finials that have overlooked Foregate Street for generations.

Our work is focused on carefully preserving the original fabric wherever possible, carrying out sympathetic stone replacement, restoring the ironwork, then the re decoration as they once were. There’s been a lot of speculation as to what the animals are, but they are infact bears.

It’s a privilege to play a small part in protecting one of Worcester’s finest historic landmarks. The Grade I listed almshouses, gates and piers date from the late 17th and early 18th centuries and remain one of England’s most significant almshouse complexes.

We look forward to sharing the restoration journey as the project progresses.

A lovely project recently completed at this beautiful converted chapel in Birtsmorton.

We were commissioned to carefully clean and fully repoint the stone spire following water ingress issues that were allowing moisture into the structure. As part of the works, we also restored the original iron weather vane, helping to preserve an important feature of the building while protecting it for years to come.

A great job by the team, with Alfie leading the masonry works on site.

A lovely project complete in Pitville Cheltenham.

Starting with of Forest of Dean block stone, we cut, carved and finished each step by hand in our workshop before installing them on site. The entrance was then completed with the refurbished railings, restored by a local blacksmith.

We’re on the final push at the new entrance project for the Royal Grammar School, Worcester, and it’s great to see everything coming together.

This has been a fantastic project to be involved in, showcasing some high-quality stonework in a prestigious setting. We’re looking forward to seeing the finished result and handing over a space that will serve the school for years to come.

A special thanks to Barnwood Limited, who have been a breath of fresh air to work with throughout the project, and to Glazzard Architects for their vision and attention to detail.

Final push at Perrins Hall, RGS Worcester.

We’re nearing completion of the supply and installation of these stunning Yorkstone entrance steps and accessibility ramp. It’s been a pleasure to see this project come together, combining traditional stone craftsmanship with modern digital precision.

A special mention to Graham, our draftsman, who digitally surveyed, modelled and detailed the entire scheme, allowing us to create accurate templates and manufacture every stone from the model before installation.

Proud to be delivering this project for Barnwood Group, with the scheme designed by Glazzard Architects.

Restoring a Worcester Landmark

We’re proud to be carrying out the restoration of the historic entrance piers and wrought iron gates at Berkeley Court, Worcester.

Standing at the entrance to one of Worcester’s most significant almshouse complexes, these impressive gates and stone piers have welcomed visitors for centuries. Originally founded through the legacy of Robert Berkeley and completed in the early 18th century, Berkeley Court remains an important part of the city’s architectural heritage. The entrance gates, with their ornate ironwork, armorial crest and distinctive animal finials, form a key feature of this Grade I listed site.

Our restoration works are focused on carefully conserving the historic stonework, repairing areas of deterioration, and ensuring the entrance features can continue to be appreciated for generations to come.

Proud to see our team carrying out a stone condition survey on the iconic St Andrew’s Spire — the tallest spire in Worcestershire and one of the last remaining parts of the original church, which dates back to the 12th century.

Alongside the survey, we’ve been carefully removing loose stone and carrying out defrassing works using our own tracked access platform to safely reach difficult areas of the tower.

It’s always a privilege to work on such an important piece of Worcester’s history and help preserve it for future generations.

A vision taking shape.

Work continues on the entrance to Perrins Hall, with improvements designed to support accessibility while respecting the character of one of the School’s most recognisable buildings.

Supported by an Old Elizabethan and his wife, the development will deliver a new accessible entrance while carefully preserving the historic character of Perrins Hall.

We are incredibly grateful for their support and look forward to sharing further updates as work progresses.
