❤️ Funny how life comes full circle…
My first job today was a gutter clearance, and like every job, I knocked on the door ready to get started.
As soon as the door opened, I was greeted with:
“You haven’t changed one bit!”
My reply was:
“This job keeps me young!” 😂
At first, I thought it must have been a previous customer from years ago that I couldn’t quite remember.
Then came the surprise…
“My name is Sue. I used to look after you in nursery when you were 2 years old.”
Wow. 😱
That completely blew my mind.
That wasn’t 5 years ago. That wasn’t 10 years ago.
That was 38 years ago.
Sue went on to tell me that I was one of a kind, very mischievous, and that I always kept her and her colleague Julie on their toes. 🤣🤣
Then she showed me an old photograph off Julie helping me on the monkey bars when I was at nursery.
Seeing that photograph from 38 years ago, standing there with Sue, made me emotional.
It really made me stop and think about how life works.
The people who care for us, guide us and help us when we’re little often never realise the impact they’ve had. Yet decades later, those memories are still there.
Today, after all these years, I found myself standing on Sue’s doorstep, not as the little boy she once looked after, but as a grown man running my own business.
As a small way of saying thank you, I completed the gutter clearance, carried out the repair, and refused to take a penny.
My way of giving something back to someone who helped look after me all those years ago. ❤️
I also made sure we got a photo together and shared a cuddle before I left.
Thank you, Sue… and thank you, Julie.
You probably had no idea that 38 years later one of those mischievous little boys would still remember the kindness you showed him.
Some jobs are about clearing gutters.
Today was about gratitude, memories, and being reminded that the people who help shape our lives are never forgotten. Sue Reynolds 🙏❤️
