Our team was called to investigate a burst underground water main at this property. After carefully excavating the area, we located the damaged pipework, removed the affected section and installed a secure replacement complete with a new isolation valve.

Once the repair was complete and the water supply restored, the area was backfilled and the surface reinstated, leaving everything safe, secure and accessible for the future.

🌳 That’s not a hedge…it came out of a drain!

Tree roots naturally seek out moisture and can enter drainage pipes through tiny cracks, damaged joints or weakened sections. Once inside, they continue to grow, catching waste and restricting the flow until the drain becomes completely blocked.

Our engineer removed this enormous root mass and restored the drainage system, but you don’t want to wait until it reaches this stage!

Warning signs can include:
🌿 Slow-draining sinks, baths or toilets
🌿 Gurgling sounds
🌿 Unpleasant odours
🌿 Recurring blockages
🌿 Water backing up

If the same drain keeps blocking, clearing it may only provide a temporary fix. A CCTV drain survey can help identify root intrusion and any damage that allows roots to enter.

Extended periods of hot, dry weather can impact drainage systems in a number of ways, including:

💧 Reduced water flow through little-used drains, allowing traps to dry out.
🦠 Stronger odours from gullies and drains.
🌳 Increased tree root activity as roots search for moisture, potentially affecting damaged or vulnerable pipework.
🏡 Dry ground can place additional stress on ageing or already compromised drainage systems.

☀️ Hot weather tips
A little prevention goes a long way:

✔ Run taps in little-used sinks, showers and floor drains for a minute every few days.
✔ Keep gullies and external drains clear of leaves and debris.
✔ Avoid washing fats, oils and grease down the sink, especially during warmer weather.
✔ Flush little-used toilets occasionally to keep water in the trap and help prevent odours.

Looking after your drainage system now could help you avoid unexpected problems later in the year.
