🇩🇪 Volvo XC90 | Inside & Out Refresh

A little different from the usual one today...

This Volvo XC90 belongs to some friends of ours who are over from Germany for a few weeks. Before heading home, they asked me to detail the car with an Inside & Out Refresh.

After a few weeks on UK roads, it was ready for a freshen up both inside and out.

As I worked my way around the car, one thing really stood out... the alloys. They had years of embedded iron contamination built up, which suggests they've probably never had a proper wheel decontamination.

Now, a full wheel decontamination isn't included with an Inside & Out Refresh, but I couldn't leave them as they were. I spent a little extra time removing as much contamination as possible because I knew the finished result would be better for it.

Sometimes, spending a little extra time can make all the difference.

👻 The Phantom Envelopes have officially started landing...

Yesterday I hand-delivered just over 100 out of an initial 250 Phantom Envelopes across Essex.

Whoever said hand-posting 250 envelopes was easy... they lied. 😂

🚗 50+ miles of driving.
👣 20,000+ steps.
☀️ 28°C heat.
..and I genuinely thought I was going to get all 250 done in one day. 🫣

Safe to say I slept well last night!

No machine polish on this one — still loads of gloss and reflection.

This Jaguar XF received the full Phantom Signature Package, but this post is all about the exterior. 👻

Iron fallout and tar were removed first, before the paintwork and exterior glass were clay barred to remove the bonded contamination left behind after washing.

That rough feeling you can sometimes notice by lightly running the back of your hand over paint? Gone. It was left feeling smooth as glass.

The paint still had swirls, light scratches and some marring. A Paint Enhancement would have improved those defects, but the customer chose not to include machine polishing on this occasion.

Even without polishing, the full decontamination brought out loads of gloss and reflection.

Finished with a Ceramic Lite coating, included as part of the package.

The same exterior process is also available as my Exterior Deep Clean if you don’t need the full Interior Deep Clean.

This isn't a customer's car...

It's mine and my partner's daily driver.

I don't keep it like this to impress anyone or for social media. I do it because I genuinely enjoy detailing. It doesn't matter whose car it is, I get the same satisfaction. For me, it's therapeutic. It's my happy place.

I've looked after every car I've ever owned. From my first car at 18, an Astra SXi, to my second car, an Astra VXR, then my Mk3 Focus RS, and even a Ford Fiesta van. Every one of them received the same level of care. It's never been about what I drive. It's about how I look after it.

Today the BMW received an Inside & Out Refresh – one of the packages you can book with Phantom Detailing.

This is what regular, safe maintenance can achieve. It was machine polished back in January and has been safely detailed every week or two ever since.

It's our daily driver. My partner uses it to commute to work. It goes on road trips, takes rubbish to the tip, and even the dog travels in the boot (he loves it). It's used exactly how a car should be used.

I often say I'll treat your car as if it was my own.

But what does that actually mean?

It means the same care, the same techniques and the same attention to detail that I put into my own car. No shortcuts, because I wouldn't take them on mine either.
