Spring is here! Hope you’re enjoying the wonderful sunshine. Hopefully most of the cold days are now behind us! This means it’s a good time of year to have your chimney swept.

Why now? Leaving the soot from the heating season in your chimney can wear out your masonry faster and increase the likelihood that you’ll need costly repairs. The soot and water can make acids that deteriorate the mortar joints in traditional chimneys and corrode newer chimney liners (like the one pictured!). Leaving the soot in the chimney during the spring and summer months will expose your masonry and flue to the corrosive build up that’s there after every heating season. So it’s a good idea to have your chimney swept soon after the season’s over to reduce the likelihood that you’ll need repairs. Of course it also means that when next winter comes you’re ready to use your fire straight away!
