🚨 One of the busiest wasp nests we’ve dealt with this summer.

This colony had established itself inside the cavity wall above the main entrance to a commercial unit near Newcastle Airport.

The video starts with the level of wasp activity before treatment. Midway through you’ll see the treatment taking effect, with wasps emerging coated in insecticidal dust before carrying it deeper into the nest.

Stay until the end… the colony makes its feelings known, and I get a less-than-friendly send-off at the top of the ladder.

If you’re seeing wasps repeatedly entering the same gap in brickwork, soffits or rooflines, there’s a good chance you’ve got an active nest developing.

Wasp nests can grow surprisingly large over the summer, with thousands of wasps living inside a single colony. By the time they’re visible from outside, they’re often much bigger than people expect.

🛏️ Not every holiday souvenir is worth bringing home…

This customer returned from holiday with a rather unwelcome gift – a serious bed bug infestation.

The video shows just how quickly these insects can establish themselves, with large numbers hiding behind the headboard where they’re often overlooked.

Bed bugs aren’t a sign of poor hygiene. They hitchhike home in luggage, clothing and personal belongings, and can end up in even the cleanest homes.

If you’ve started waking up with unexplained bites or noticed tiny black spotting around your bed, don’t ignore it. The earlier they’re dealt with, the easier they are to eliminate.

Not every wasp nest looks busy… until you treat it. 🐝

This one in Newcastle looked fairly quiet from the outside, but within seconds of treatment the true size of the colony became obvious. Hundreds of wasps poured from the entrance after the insecticide was applied.

This is exactly why DIY treatments can be risky. A nest that appears inactive can still contain a large, aggressive colony.

Professional treatment carried out safely, with activity expected to cease over the next 24–48 hours.

This wasp nest looked routine—until we got close.

This one in Exhibition Park, Newcastle certainly wasn’t.

The nest was extremely aggressive, with workers defending it from several metres away. After carrying out a careful risk assessment, we treated the nest using the appropriate professional insecticide before safely removing it from site.

If you’ve spotted wasps coming and going from the same location, don’t leave it to get bigger. Nests can grow rapidly at this time of year, and the later they’re left, the more defensive they tend to become.

If you’ve noticed hundreds of winged ants appearing almost overnight, you’re witnessing one of nature’s most impressive events.

Each summer, mature ant colonies release winged males and future queens in a mass mating flight. Warm temperatures, high humidity and light winds trigger thousands of colonies to take to the skies at the same time – which is why they seem to appear everywhere all at once.

The good news? Most swarms only last a few hours.

However, if flying ants are emerging inside your home or business, that’s a different story. It could indicate an established nest within the building that may require professional treatment.

Today’s call-out took us to Stanley, County Durham, for an active wasp nest in a garden shed… and this one was a little different! 🐝

The wasps have built the nest around a flexible hose, which makes removal a bit more challenging than normal. Rather than risking breaking the nest apart while it’s still active, we’ll first inject it with a professional insecticidal dust to ensure the colony is eliminated before carefully removing the nest.

At this stage of the season, nests can become surprisingly large, with thousands of wasps inside, so it’s definitely not a DIY job.

🚨 Call-out in Cramlington for an active wasp nest… but that wasn’t all we found.

What started as a straightforward wasp treatment quickly turned into something more. 🐝

While carrying out the treatment in the loft, we also discovered extensive rodent nesting material and droppings hidden within the insulation – something the homeowner had no idea was there.

The wasp nest has now been treated, and we’ve also commenced a rodent monitoring programme to determine whether there’s any current activity and to identify potential points of ingress before carrying out any proofing works.

This is exactly why a thorough inspection matters. Sometimes the pest you call us for isn’t the only one living in your loft.

🎥 Rat Behaviour Caught on Camera – Easington 🐀

Not every inspection relies on what we can see during the day.

These remote camera captures show a rat using the same route repeatedly beneath a property. By combining remote CCTV monitoring with tracking dust, ground signs, bait take patterns and years of experience understanding rodent behaviour, we’re able to build a detailed picture of how rats are moving around a building and, more importantly, identify their point of entry.

This evidence allows us to target the source of the infestation rather than simply treating the symptoms.
