Hope everyone is safe and well. Just to advise we are back working, applying social distancing rules. The last couple of days we have been cleaning the carpets of communal areas in a number of flats in Yeovil. Safe tips on treating stains and spillages without causing further damage to rugs and carpets.

The images show the best items to use and most important thing to remember is NO SCRUBBING.

For drinks and food, always mop up excess liquid or solids using a dry or very slightly damp white towel (or an old towel where the colour will not run). Never over wet or soak carpets with water.

White flannels are the best thing to use to apply cleaning solutions and remember to apply to cloth not on stain .

You can use diluted washing powder in a bowl of hot/warm (not boiling) water. Make sure the solution is very diluted as you do not want to leave soap suds which will dry sticky. White vinegar is great for lifting fresh tea, coffee and general stains as well. Use very carefully, not too much and always apply to a cloth .

Never ever scrub, just dab or you can use a brush process called tamping as detailed below -

Place a slightly damp cloth with cleaning agent onto the stain and then with a small handle brush tap on to cloth which gently agitates the cleaning solution into spillage and stain.

For cosmetic spills you can use acetate products like nail polish remover . Always wear a mask and gloves.
Put a small amount of polish remover in a bowl, you can then use cotton buds and gently remove spillage. This is also good for fresh gloss or emulsion paint in small areas.

Avoid any attempt of ink removal as the ink will spread when applying liquid so best call a good cleaner in for these jobs.

Dry the excess liquid with slightly damp towels or flannels and remember dabbing not scrubbing. You can use a small hairdryer on a low heat setting but ensure to keep it at a safe distance as you do not want to damage the fibre. Happy to take calls for more advise.
