One of the biggest misconceptions we come across is when people ask, "Do you use WoolSafe products?"

The answer might be "yes"... but that doesn't necessarily mean the cleaner is trained to clean wool.

Anyone can buy a cleaning product with the WoolSafe logo on the bottle. That's a bit like owning a stethoscope – it doesn't make you a doctor.

Being a WoolSafe Service Provider is about far more than the products you use. It involves specialist training in identifying wool, understanding how it behaves, recognising the risks, and knowing the correct cleaning methods to protect it.

Many carpet cleaning courses introduce wool as part of their training, but WoolSafe training goes much further, focusing specifically on the unique characteristics and care of wool carpets and rugs.

The product is only one part of the equation. Knowledge and experience are what really protect your investment.

We were reminded of this recently after being asked to rectify a wool carpet where the right type of product had reportedly been used, but the cleaning process wasn't appropriate for the fibre.

If you own a valuable wool carpet, it's worth asking not only what products your cleaner uses, but whether they're a WoolSafe Service Provider.

Something different. It's sometimes hard thinking of content to post, business gets in the way. Jobs, calls, enquiries, actually doing some work and then trying to figure out content.

Well weekends I try to switch off a bit and love walking so I thought id share some photos from a little hike I did over the stiperstones. Its honestly amazing whats on our doorstep in Shropshire, and it makes me thankful for being able to work in such a stunning place.

Fabrics are often overlooked in terms of cleaning and are typically quite an investment in the home. Fabric cleaning actually is quite complicated. Another wonderful review this week from a new client using us for the 1st time.

Now we weren't the cheapest, nor had some new fangled method, we simply offered her the correct processes from an experienced business with renowned customer service.

We’re proud to say that JL Carpet Cleaning has once again renewed our WoolSafe Service Provider certification.

For us, WoolSafe has never just been a logo or a product label — it’s a commitment to understanding how wool carpets should actually be cleaned and cared for properly.

Wool is a natural fibre and a significant investment in many homes. Sadly, the carpet cleaning industry remains completely unregulated, and over the years we’ve seen a worrying amount of misinformation and unintentional damage caused by cleaners who simply haven’t been trained to understand wool correctly.

Using a “WoolSafe-approved product” doesn’t automatically mean someone understands wool carpets.

One thing we often hear when teaching other cleaners is: “I’ve cleaned that way for 20 years and never had a problem.”

The reality is many cleaners never return months or years later to see the gradual texture damage, fibre distortion, colour change, or wear that incorrect cleaning methods can cause.

At JL Carpet Cleaning, ongoing training and specialist knowledge have always mattered to us. Renewing our WoolSafe certification is another reminder of the standards we continue to work to for our customers across Telford, Shrewsbury & Shropshire.

Back this week at our regular clients the National Trust @ Attingham Park. This time to try and resurrect and sorry staircase which hadnt ever been touched by cleaning or vacuuming.

This staircase whilst only 16 steps took 4hrs! The issue was the flooring is sisal or seagrass as its known and is water sensitive and cannot be wet cleaned. It can only be dry compound cleaned which is fine for a light clean but just isn't upto it for the amount of wear this flooring had.

To compound matters, it was edged with a cotton border and whilst this is wet cleanable, we had to juggle keeping moisture off the sisal

Was it perfect, no it was never going to be. Was there a huge improvement, yes and thats whats counted for the client.

2 new clients this week, both using us for our woolsafe service. Now some cleaners claim to use safe for wool products. This isnt the same as understanding how wool cleans and whats required. Woolsafe specialists are fully trained and experienced in cleaning wool carpets.

With us, you're also backed up with the experience of an instructor, inspector and installer.

The first client on the Herefordshire border booked us to carry out the first clean on thier carpets and carry out stain removal on a unsightly urine stain.

The second client booked us to provide a full clean and be reassured we were fully prepared for her custom Indian made wool carpets, which were stunning, along with their home.

Remember, we are Shropshire's only woolsafe specialist service provider....

A really unusual but satisfying job the week past. We were asked to clean this extremely sentimental 100 yr old Indian rug for a couple in beautiful Ironbridge.

Typically with rugs we clean offsite, but the logistics of cleaning such a large old rug off site meant onsite was the only option. The client worryingly had been quoted £70 to clean this!

It was our only job of the day and we gave it the love and care it deserved.

After a thorough back dust we removed nearly a litre of dry soil out of the rug even before we actually started the wet clean process.

All the coloured flower motifs all needed locking with a acid dye to stop possible dye bleed into the cream surroundings.

All in all a tiring but satisfying job complete
