When using any kind of Scissor lift or MEWP, you will find the right machine can be great for access.

However, machines can go wrong, so its also important to have a rescue plan when using these machines.

Today, that rescue plan saved me from being stuck in the air, when my Scissor lift wouldn't play nice, our rescue plan came into action. Simple, yet effective.

No panicking, within a short time, I was down, safe and sound.

If you need / want to use these types of equipment, get trained, get a plan, get a rescue plan, stay safe.

Our rescue plan helped us keep our safety record, so we can sleep soundly and so so can the Facilities companies that we work with.

What a woman, I really did marry a diamond.

For a short while, my wife Lisa Powell has been working hard behind the scenes to get us through and onto the Avetta Preffered Supplier List.

Quoting in appropriate clothing for the property - won't win you the quote.

Being the cheapest, mid range or highest price - won't win you a quote.

Having the appropriate RAMS and Insurances - won't win you a quote.

Good communication - won't win you a quote.

Trust - won't win you a quote.

All the above (and more), Individually won't necessarily get that quote into a sale.

Individually, they help towards turning that phone call or message into a quote and transferring it from a quote to a sale.

Getting the above right, is part of the process of running a successful business.

Dark and cold morning at the 1st job at 05.40
2nd job 06.40 and 06.50 when it was getting quite light.

I love early mornings out on the tools,

Then new trainee dropped me off at networking, where he could have come networking with me, but hes ready to start some works on his own, so that's what he did before picking me up later.

Great to see his training is going well and he is picking it up nicely.

Training schedule (brief)

Training starts in the office going through what staff can expect from us, what we expect from staff and how to deal with customers expectations.

On site Training -

Stage 1 - low level pole work.
Stage 2 - low level hand tools.
Stage 3 - high level hand tools.
Stage 4 - high level pole work.
Stage 5 - safe step ladder usage.
Stage 6 - safe ladder usage.
Stage 7 - MEWP and PASMA.

With the lovely rain coming down this morning, it wasnt the nicest of days for a new staff member to start.

None the less, he got stuck in and took to it really well.

Today's work was window cleaning on local offices and local shops in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Then we did some networking in Chesterfield and onto a quote for extra works with a regular client in Kirkby in Ashfield

Same time tomorrow for window cleaning in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Long Eaton, Mapperly and Nottingham and Hucknall.

Plus some networking in Bingham......

Potential client sees us and says "Window cleaner, perfect, just what we are looking for"

A few minutes into the conversation and I find out the budget is £15.00 a month, I laugh, he laughs, as we both know it is a bit unrealistic.

I knew we wouldn't be able to do for the amount of work required, plus I doubt any other window cleaning company would be able to match the £15.00 either.

What we could do, is split the works into 4 areas and we could do 1 main area at £15.00, putting the other areas ad hoc.

Quote sent, itemising each area and cost, along with what the customer can expect if they use us as a preferred contractor.

Confirmation comes back to do all areas for £60.00 a month.

It's always worth explaining to any customer or potential customer how you can help. Not just a price and walk away hoping for they will get back in touch.
