Two years ago, one end-of-tenancy clean completely changed the direction of our business.

This week I was reminded of that moment.
I watched G and M complete their first end-of-tenancy clean 👏
It was an honour working alongside you both and seeing you reach this milestone.
Moments like this matter.

They remind us how businesses really grow — through people learning, improving, and stepping up.
This also comes during a record week for Five Valleys Cleaning, where we served the highest number of customers in a single trading week.

I couldn’t be prouder of the team.
But growth also brings risk.

The next six months are crucial, because this is the stage where many cleaning businesses struggle.

So the focus now is simple:
Stay committed.
Stay disciplined.
Keep pushing forward.
The momentum we’ve built is incredible.
Now we protect it.

Question:
Has there ever been a single moment or job that completely changed the direction of your business ?

Five Valleys Cleaning – Team Memo
A phenomenal last couple of weeks!

First and foremost, I want to congratulate one team member on receiving some incredible personal news. In my opinion, when a man hears this kind of news, it’s the greatest he can receive. I’ve seen people unlock gears they never knew they had after hearing it. Thank you for sharing that moment with me—truly special.

Cheltenham Gold Cup week went exceptionally well. We got in early, worked efficiently, and got out before the heavy traffic hit. Navigating through Cheltenham via the “rabbit runs” (thanks to local knowledge!) made a big difference.

To top it all off, we finished the week in time to pause a carpet cleaning job so one of our clients could watch his horse, Gaelic Warrior, win—what a fantastic way to end the week.

I’m also pleased to announce that last week was a record-breaking week for Five Valleys, with the highest number of new customers joining and using our services. This is down to your hard work, commitment, and incredible stamina.

Seeing the team push through Gold Cup week—working from 6am through to midnight on Friday, a man down, ensuring no one missed out—was phenomenal. I genuinely see all your careers progressing because of that level of effort and attitude.

Thank you as well for covering the twilight shifts while I stepped away several evenings—your support is appreciated more than you know.

A special thank you to our Bristol-based business consultant for travelling up, staying over, and helping us troubleshoot and improve our processes, procedures, and overall team performance. Your input has been invaluable, and we look forward to working together again soon.

And thank you to G for covering the twilight shift on Friday night, allowing me to attend a key meeting with both our Bristol- and Cheltenham-based consultants.

Looking Ahead – Week Commencing 23rd March

I’ll be finalising the diaries this afternoon—the order book is currently overflowing.

If you are a non-driver on my vehicle, I’ll be in touch later today to check your availability for extended hours this week.

We will also be covering the NHS contract this week. Please note:
To work on NHS jobs, you must be registered on the DBS Update Service under our company system. Even if you are cleared through another NHS system, this does not apply for our insurance—you must be registered through our system.

Global Pressures & Business Outlook

Due to ongoing global conflicts and trade tensions, particularly in the Middle East, there is increasing pressure on UK businesses. Costs are rising across the board, and while we can absorb some of this, there are limits.

Because of this, it’s essential that we become more efficient in everything we do—from how we travel, to how we structure our work, to how we plan and manage our diaries. Small improvements across the board will make a big difference.

We all hope these conflicts are resolved soon and that global trade stabilises. Our thoughts are with everyone affected and their families during this difficult time.

At present, inflation continues to rise. If this trend continues, we may need to adapt how we operate to maintain a strong and sustainable business.

I’ve been speaking with a number of business owners, and many are considering pulling back. Personally, I don’t believe that’s the right approach. Retrenching doesn’t help the people who rely on our services.

Instead, I believe we push forward—continue to serve, continue to add value, and continue to look for growth opportunities. By staying proactive and committed, we not only support our customers but also strengthen our position for the future.

Vehicle Update

The old Skoda is now back on the road, and the electrical issue with the windscreen motor has been resolved.

A big thank you to Pete Hayward and Thrupp Tyres for keeping our vehicles running and roadworthy—your support is greatly appreciated.

The Hyundai will be going in for a service this week. Following this, we’ll be looking to begin trading in our current vehicles as we move towards transitioning to vans.

Team request:
Please keep your eyes peeled for suitable vans—ideally with 3 or more seats and solid, reliable “workhorse” vehicles that can support the demands of the job.

You wanna go fast, go alone. If you wanna go far, go together.

Call now to connect with business.

Five Valleys Cleaning – Team Memo

Firstly, thank you all for another great week.

I would also like to apologise to the team for having to leave site frequently this week to attend meetings. I really appreciate everyone stepping up while I haven’t been around as much as usual.

Thank you to G for being open and honest in highlighting that several of the team working the long day shifts need a longer rest and recovery period before starting again the following day. I’ve contacted a few of the businesses and agreed to move their cleans from the evening to later in the night. I will temporarily cover those myself so the squad can get the rest and recovery time needed.

Please also remember that Cheltenham Gold Cup week runs from Tuesday to Friday. Cheltenham will be extremely busy, with people travelling from across the UK and Ireland to watch elite-level jump racing. Traffic will likely be heavy throughout the week, so please allow extra travel time when travelling to sites.

If you are interested in jump racing, you can also hear more about it in my audiobook The Game of Money, where I talk about my personal experiences betting and laying at Cheltenham and other elite-level racing events.

We also have multiple new commercial contracts starting within the next two weeks, so I ask everyone to send in their availability as early as possible on Saturday for the week ahead.

A big thank you again to G for helping us out and putting in a lot of extra hours this week. M will be stepping back into the long day shifts this week following his house move.

Please note that once these new contracts begin, we will not be taking on any additional contracts for the time being. This is to avoid overtrading, which is something many SMEs struggle with at this stage of growth. Our focus will be on stabilising operations until a suitable partner is found who can help us expand while continuing to add value to the community.

Finally, I have booked myself onto some training courses with some of the UK’s larger SMEs and will be spending time training with them. Anyone in the team is welcome to join me, as I believe it could help progress your careers and add value to both you and your families.

If you would like to attend the training, please speak to me directly or give me a call.

Thanks again everyone for your hard work and commitment.

We are building something strong together, and I appreciate every one of you being part of the team.

Sad News – Dr G

To all the Five Valleys Cleaning Team,
It is with great sadness that we share the news that Dr G from the Painswick round has sadly passed away.

He will be greatly missed by us all, and our thoughts are with Mrs G and the family at this very difficult time.

Dr G was a warm and gentle soul with old-fashioned values, and we always enjoyed the friendly banter — especially when reminiscing about the old times and teasing us about the old Skodas we used to share. He brought kindness and good humour wherever he went, and it was a genuine pleasure to have known him.
He will be deeply missed by the whole team.

With heartfelt sympathy to Mrs G and family,

Team Memo Five Valleys cleaning 8/2/2026
I’d like to start by giving a very warm welcome to P, who joined us on a trial shift last week and did an absolutely fantastic job. We even had two clients call to ask when she would be back on shift, which is brilliant feedback. Well done, P.
P will mainly be stepping in while C.D. temporarily steps away to work on the NHS contract.

M.D. has moved onto reduced hours while he urgently looks for a new property due to ongoing mould issues at his current home. We wish him the very best of luck in finding somewhere suitable and settling into the area.

Financial & Compliance Updates
Please remember that all financial emails sent to me must also include Mandy. Mandy is now managing all financial back-end work and compliance, thanks to her extensive experience.
There are several changes coming into effect in the new financial year from April 2026, which I will discuss with you individually while on shift.

Second Vehicle Launch
From this coming week, we will be launching a second vehicle to help manage workload. I’ll be speaking to you individually about:
Driver incentive pay
Opportunities to step into a team leader role on the second vehicle
Please note: automatic licence holders can also drive this vehicle, as I’m aware some of you only hold automatic licences.

Cheltenham Gold Cup Festival
Week Commencing: 9th March
Cheltenham will be extremely busy, with visitors arriving from across the UK and Ireland. Traffic is expected to be heavily congested and often gridlocked.
For this week only:

Rotas and diaries will change
Strategy will be to start early, with rounds beginning from 4:00am
One additional team member will be added per vehicle
The aim is to exit Cheltenham before heavy traffic builds
I’ll explain this in more detail while on shift.

Client & Round Notes
Thank you to everyone who took the time to dry Mr W’s floor on the Wotton-under-Edge round
Mrs C (Uplands round) will be returning this coming week
Mrs P (Nailsworth round) is stepping away for one week only
Mrs P (Cam round) is beginning to struggle with mobility. Please support her where possible—she’s a lovely lady with very traditional values and often tries to move furniture for us. Please make sure we offer to do this for her to prevent any risk of injury

Doctor’s Uley round:
The shower drain tops can be removed. They may feel very tight and as though they could break, but they won’t—just apply firm, even pressure when pulling upwards.

Additional Notes
We are supporting holiday cover at schools again this coming week, as we did last week
If you are on shift with me, finishes may be later
Please ensure all availability is submitted by 6:00pm today, as diaries won’t be completed until later this evening due to me being out on a cleaning round today

Thank You & Referrals
I’d like to sincerely thank you all for your continued support and for recommending our services within the local community. We truly appreciate you sharing our contact details with other cleaning businesses in the Stroud area who are looking to grow and add more value to their operations.

Please don’t forget that we offer a £5,000 finder’s fee for any successful referral where a deal goes through. I’m pleased to say that meetings so far have gone very well, and we’re excited about the opportunities ahead.

Thank you once again for your trust and support—it really is appreciated.
Thanks, Paul Campbell

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mr. Tutton as they say goodbye tomorrow.

Mr. Tutton was such a warm and kind gentleman — a truly gentle soul, and someone who was so easy to like. He will be fondly remembered.

I’m very sad that I won’t be able to join everyone after the funeral, as I am working from 6 a.m. until midnight tomorrow, driving on the non-drivers round. Please know that our thoughts will be with Mrs. Tutton and the family at 2 p.m.

With love, and in loving memory of Mr. Tutton — one of our very first customers on the Nailsworth round.

Team Memo Five Valleys

Dear Team,

First and foremost, I’d like to welcome Mandy, who has stepped into the role of Interim CFO. Mandy brings a wealth of experience from much larger SMEs across a range of service-based industries. During this period, she will be overseeing all government compliance requirements as well as our back-office operations.

I would also like to congratulate the entire team. As we sign off on our latest accounts, we have achieved 109% year-on-year growth. This level of growth is unprecedented for the business. A significant portion of this success has come through customer word-of-mouth referrals—which is particularly meaningful given there is no financial incentive for customers to do so—and, most importantly, through your continued hard work and commitment.

This growth has been explosive. However, such rapid expansion cannot be sustained unless we bring a partner into the business. Without doing so, we would need to significantly increase our gearing ratio, which would place considerable pressure on the business and the wider team. As a reminder, there remains a ÂŁ5,000 reward for anyone who introduces a suitable potential partner to help grow Five Valleys.

We are now one year on from the loss of our co-founder, Margaret Campbell. The day before Margaret passed away, we shared with her the monthly turnover based on the value of customers served. She was so surprised she nearly lost her balance on her walking stick—she simply didn’t believe it was possible. What you have achieved since then is a true testament to her vision and to your dedication.

That said, with margins currently very tight, this places the business—and all of us—in a more vulnerable position. As we move into 2026, it’s important that we protect what we have built and continue to operate with care, discipline, and teamwork.
Thank you all for your continued effort, professionalism, and commitment.

Kind regards,

Paul Campbell
Five Valleys
