Five Valleys Cleaning – Team Memo
A phenomenal last couple of weeks!
First and foremost, I want to congratulate one team member on receiving some incredible personal news. In my opinion, when a man hears this kind of news, it’s the greatest he can receive. I’ve seen people unlock gears they never knew they had after hearing it. Thank you for sharing that moment with me—truly special.
Cheltenham Gold Cup week went exceptionally well. We got in early, worked efficiently, and got out before the heavy traffic hit. Navigating through Cheltenham via the “rabbit runs” (thanks to local knowledge!) made a big difference.
To top it all off, we finished the week in time to pause a carpet cleaning job so one of our clients could watch his horse, Gaelic Warrior, win—what a fantastic way to end the week.
I’m also pleased to announce that last week was a record-breaking week for Five Valleys, with the highest number of new customers joining and using our services. This is down to your hard work, commitment, and incredible stamina.
Seeing the team push through Gold Cup week—working from 6am through to midnight on Friday, a man down, ensuring no one missed out—was phenomenal. I genuinely see all your careers progressing because of that level of effort and attitude.
Thank you as well for covering the twilight shifts while I stepped away several evenings—your support is appreciated more than you know.
A special thank you to our Bristol-based business consultant for travelling up, staying over, and helping us troubleshoot and improve our processes, procedures, and overall team performance. Your input has been invaluable, and we look forward to working together again soon.
And thank you to G for covering the twilight shift on Friday night, allowing me to attend a key meeting with both our Bristol- and Cheltenham-based consultants.
Looking Ahead – Week Commencing 23rd March
I’ll be finalising the diaries this afternoon—the order book is currently overflowing.
If you are a non-driver on my vehicle, I’ll be in touch later today to check your availability for extended hours this week.
We will also be covering the NHS contract this week. Please note:
To work on NHS jobs, you must be registered on the DBS Update Service under our company system. Even if you are cleared through another NHS system, this does not apply for our insurance—you must be registered through our system.
Global Pressures & Business Outlook
Due to ongoing global conflicts and trade tensions, particularly in the Middle East, there is increasing pressure on UK businesses. Costs are rising across the board, and while we can absorb some of this, there are limits.
Because of this, it’s essential that we become more efficient in everything we do—from how we travel, to how we structure our work, to how we plan and manage our diaries. Small improvements across the board will make a big difference.
We all hope these conflicts are resolved soon and that global trade stabilises. Our thoughts are with everyone affected and their families during this difficult time.
At present, inflation continues to rise. If this trend continues, we may need to adapt how we operate to maintain a strong and sustainable business.
I’ve been speaking with a number of business owners, and many are considering pulling back. Personally, I don’t believe that’s the right approach. Retrenching doesn’t help the people who rely on our services.
Instead, I believe we push forward—continue to serve, continue to add value, and continue to look for growth opportunities. By staying proactive and committed, we not only support our customers but also strengthen our position for the future.
Vehicle Update
The old Skoda is now back on the road, and the electrical issue with the windscreen motor has been resolved.
A big thank you to Pete Hayward and Thrupp Tyres for keeping our vehicles running and roadworthy—your support is greatly appreciated.
The Hyundai will be going in for a service this week. Following this, we’ll be looking to begin trading in our current vehicles as we move towards transitioning to vans.
Team request:
Please keep your eyes peeled for suitable vans—ideally with 3 or more seats and solid, reliable “workhorse” vehicles that can support the demands of the job.
You wanna go fast, go alone. If you wanna go far, go together.
