Multifunctional Chlorine Tablets often include an algaecide component containing copper sulphate. Most inflatable spa pumps, however, use heaters made from aluminium. When these two materials come into contact, a galvanic reaction can occur, leading to gradual erosion of the aluminium. Over time, this may cause permanent leaks or even damage to the heating elements, resulting in power trips.

This process tends to accelerate in hard water areas, where limescale deposits build up inside the heater. These deposits can cause the copper sulphate to precipitate and concentrate, increasing the risk of corrosion. In such cases, regularly descaling your pump can help extend its lifespan and maintain efficient performance.

We are all tucked up in the warm warehouse preparing stock for you guys whilst the storm rages outside (its drizzling)
So a quick tip if you are thinking of storing your hot tub over winter, make sure there is no water left in the pump unit, this will prolong the life of your impeller and every other component.
Our company hot tub is on its 3rd year with our impeller and still going strong.
