Cosy nights and crackling fires are a welcome comfort on colder evenings but it’s important to use them safely.

If your log burner or open fire is back in use, make sure your chimney has been swept and your appliance properly serviced to help reduce the risk of chimney fires.

Keep logs, coal and other fuels stored well away from the heat, and always use a spark guard to stop embers escaping.

Don’t let a preventable chimney fire undo the comfort of your evening.

Exposure to carbon monoxide (CO) deprives the body of oxygen, which causes illnesses that can be mistaken for a cold or the flu. The longer someone is exposed to CO, the more severe their symptoms become, and at high levels, can be fatal.

Don't let this be a warning too late - take some time to view our series of CO safety videos, covering everything from signs and symptoms to where to position your alarm.

Don’t risk becoming a chimney fire statistic this winter! ❄️

Getting your chimney swept is important, but also acting safely as a stove owner. Like keeping your firewood a safe distance from your stove or open fireplace. It can be tempting to pile them close for ease of access but don't take the risk. β›”πŸ”₯
