Friday, 5th June was World Environment Day. Village Water recognises that protecting the environment starts with protecting our most vital resource, water. 💧

At Village Water, we are committed to safeguarding the environment through sustainable water resource management and climate-resilient sanitation and hygiene initiatives. These interventions help protect water ecosystems, forest areas, and biodiversity, preventing degradation of land due to overuse or contamination of water sources. Access to safe water also reduces the need for boiling water, helping to lower carbon emissions while improving health and wellbeing.

Let’s continue working together to build a future where people and the environment thrive side by side.

What girls know about their bodies can shape the course of their futures. As we commemorate World Menstrual Health Day, Prisca’s story reminds us why access to menstrual health education and safe spaces for girls matters.

Prisca (left), a Grade 11 pupil found confidence and support after joining a girls’ club at her school. Before joining, she struggled with menstrual health and lacked proper information. Through the club, she learned healthy hygiene practices, gained knowledge on sexual health and HIV prevention, and became more confident in herself and her future.

Today, Prisca dreams of becoming a nurse and encourages other girls to join similar spaces of learning and support. “Join the clubs. You’ll learn to set goals, stay busy, and keep away from bad practices. If others can make it, I can too, and so can you” she says.

This World Menstrual Health Day, help us ensure more girls have access to menstrual health education and safe spaces to thrive. Your donation could help keep girls healthy, confident, and in school. Donate here 🔗 https://villagewater.org/donate

🌸 Happy International Day of Families

Siblings Mubu and Mwangala are helping transform Imana Village in Zambia after decades of water shortages and unsafe drinking water.

🗣️“We were subjected to drinking dirty water, which we shared with animals and frogs. We now have taps within our yards,” says Mwangala.

Today, Mubu serves as treasurer of the village water committee, helping manage and sustain the community’s water system, while families are also growing gardens that improve food security and generate income.

Thanks to the new water system, Mwangala has a tap in her garden and can now grow vegetables in her garden to support her household. Together, the siblings are contributing to the wellbeing of both their family and village, Mubu through his role on the water committee, and Mwangala through farming and food production.

Together, they show how families can be at the heart of positive change in their village.
