People are often surprised to learn just how few live rats I see day to day through my work. Today however was an exception to the rule. I had been called because of increased sightings of rats at this location, my first thought on attending any job is "why, what when", why are they there, what is attracting them to the area and how long's it been going on. In this case the "why" was obvious immediately. Rats had chewed the bin lid and could now access the food waste within, however when I arrived the bin had been emptied and the drainage b**g was unsually still in place ( they regularly go missing). This meant that unfortunately any rats that dropped in couldnt now get out. Ive no idea how long the poor rat had been stuck in there getting stressed and dehydrated but I quickly ended its suffering. A recommendation was left with the client to replace the damaged bin and I deployed control methods on line with current legislation/ guidelines for external baiting.
