💡 Helpful Tip: Is It Damp… or Just Condensation?

Not every damp patch means you need damp proofing! In fact, it could just be condensation – and knowing the difference could save you a fair bit of money.

Condensation is usually:
✔ On cold surfaces like windows and external walls.
✔ Accompanied by black mould.
✔ Most common in bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms where there’s not enough ventilation.

Rising damp is more likely to:
✔ Start at the bottom of the wall.
✔ Cause peeling paint or bubbling plaster.
✔ Leave white, powdery deposits (salts) on the wall.

Stan 2.0 had his first visit to Carlton Towers today! 🏰🚐

It wasn’t just a sightseeing trip either – he was following in his predecessor’s tyre tracks and was there to work! 💪

He’s still waiting for his new graphics, but tomorrow he’ll finally be dressed for the occasion, and we can’t wait to show off his new look! 🚐💙

🚐 Meet Stan 2.0! 🚐

Last week, I said goodbye to Stan – a van that had been with me through countless jobs, miles, and memories. Losing him felt like the end of an era, and if I’m honest, I wasn’t ready to imagine anything taking his place.

But sometimes, when you least expect it, a new chapter begins.

Enter Stan 2.0! 😁

At first glance, you might think nothing has changed. He’s still a blue Volkswagen Transporter, but look a little closer and you’ll spot that this is actually a slightly newer, upgraded model.

The original Stan served me brilliantly and became a bit of a local celebrity over the years, so there was only ever going to be one name for his successor.

He’s getting ready to be put to work and, once he’s had his sign writing done and the private plate fitted, he’ll be looking the part.

As for the plate—yes, it says OAP! It was the closest I could get to QAP 😆 Although, given my age, an OAP plate seems quite fitting these days!

Keep an eye out for Stan 2.0 on the roads - and if you see him, give us a wave! 👋

Well, here's a post I never expected to be writing…
Thursday, after many years of loyal service, Stan the Van was involved in an accident and has sadly been damaged beyond economical repair.
Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt, which is all that really matters.
For those who know us, you’ll know that Stan has been a huge part of QA Plastering over the years, carrying tools, materials and plenty of plaster dust from one job to the next. It’s genuinely the end of an era.
The accident has left me out of action for a few days while everything gets sorted, but I’m already working on finding a replacement and hope to be back up and running very soon.
Thank you to everyone who has messaged and checked in on me. Your support means a lot.
Goodbye Stan – you served us well. 💙🚐

Another damp proofing job completed in York last week.

This one had all the usual signs - tired plaster, damp patches and walls that had clearly had enough. After stripping things back and carrying out the damp proofing treatment, the room is now dry, fresh and ready to be painted.

The photos show the whole process from start to finish because we know everyone loves a good before and after… and because people often don’t realise how bad it looks before we work our magic 🤪

As always, we kept everything clean, tidy and finished to a high standard throughout. No cutting corners, and definitely no “that’ll do”.
