Another problem solved!

Not an uncommon sight: an airbrick that's been chewed by rodents. On a careful inspection, this one was clearly chewed from the outside and shows a mouse had got into the building. Obviously the problem of them being in the building needs to be addressed but firstly, we need to stop any more getting...

3rd April 20223rd April 2022 There’s something under the stairs! A recent client explained that they were hearing noises in the walls and that there was, occasionally, a slightly ‘sewery’ smell in the living room. It was time to take a look in the inspection chamber. The CCTV showed us one rog...

What a Dray!
This is dray (a squirrel’s nest) has been made out of loft insulation. In no time at all, it had ripped up parts of the insulation blanket that had been laid between the joists and stacked it into a ball shape.

Not what we had planned for today but got a call from Collyer Construction Ltd who have a client with bees in a chimney that needed to be dealt with. With the help of Carly Hooper, Fleet's resident beekeeper and swam-collector, we had the chimney taken apart brick by brick to make sure whatever was in there was treated as gently as possible with a view to relocating them. Here you can see a good 3 foot of the nest exposed. Sadly, no queen bee: she'd probably died off over the winter and all was left were some rather irate worker bees living off the remains of the honey.
Thank you, the Collyer team for doing what you could to protect the environment and taking the extra hour or two to do the right thing!

Found the way in! A home made tumble drier outlet that was being used by mice. In through the hole, chewed out through the flexible pipe and straight into the pantry.

Squirrels don't need much of a hole but this one decided to make the gap just a little bigger!

Checking an issue with rats getting into a property and all the indications were a sewer problem. Sure enough, 5 meters in and we have a defect where the pipe turns to the vertical to ascend to the first floor and, ultimately, the vent on the roof (the white spot in the video is this vent). Rather usefully, a rat pops its head out to check on our progress!

All too common: a drain grate that's had a hole chewed into it, allowing rats to escape the sewer and dive into the large wheelie bin containing food waste.
Two problems to fix: a metal mesh affixed to the grating will stop further attack and a mesh over the bin's drain hole will stop any surface dwelling rats from exploiting the opportunity in the future.

One of the more unusual locations for a wasp nest: in a rucksack left in a spare room! The window had been left open all Spring and Mrs. Wasp obviously took a liking to the location.
Bag very promptly removed to the garden!
