🪱 THIS is why cross-contamination matters in cleaning
Today I found what appeared to be a roundworm in a customer’s cat sick. And yes… that’s something you don’t expect to find halfway through a cleaning job but this is the reality when you provide a service in multiple people’s environments! 😳
Roundworms can look very much like spaghetti or noodles. Some types of roundworm found in cats can also pose a risk to humans, which is why good hygiene and preventing cross-contamination are so important.
This is one of the reasons many professional cleaners prefer to use the customer’s own hoover, mop and bucket rather than transporting the same equipment from home to home.
Think about it…

🐾 Pet contamination
🧫 Other contaminants
You don’t want to unknowingly carry something from one customer’s home into the next.
Luckily, I was wearing PPE today, which is exactly what you want when dealing with bodily fluids and animal waste.
Once I left the property, I fully disinfected my reusable cleaning equipment and separated my used cloths, clothing and PPE. Everything that needed washing went straight into a disinfectant boil wash when I got home.
I also thoroughly washed my hand multiple times, kept changing my gloves during this clean and showered when I got home.
This isn’t about saying someone’s home is “dirty”. ❤️
Pets get worms. Cats get sick. Accidents happen.
It’s about understanding infection control and cross-contamination and having good systems in place as a professional cleaner.
So next time your cleaner asks:
“Can I use your hoover and mop?”
