Don't Panic! Here's What to Do When You Spill Red Wine on Your Carpet
If you've spilt red wine on your carpet, don't worry! You can try several methods to remove the stain and prevent it from becoming a permanent eyesore.
The key to removing red wine stains is to act quickly. As soon as the spill occurs, blot the area with a clean, dry cloth or kitchen roll. This will help absorb as much of the wine as possible before it sets into the carpet fibres.
Now there are a few methods you can try:
Salt Method: After blotting up as much of the wine as possible, sprinkle salt over the stain while it's still wet. Let the salt sit for a few hours until it has absorbed the wine. Then, vacuum up the salt and rinse the area with cold water.
White Wine Method: Pouring white wine over a red wine stain can help lift the colour from the carpet. After blotting up as much of the wine as possible, pour white wine over the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, blot the area with a clean, dry cloth or kitchen roll.
Bicarbonate of Soda Method: Mix a paste of bicarb and water and apply it to the stain. Let the paste dry completely, then vacuum up the baking soda and rinse the area with cold water.
Water and Washing-Up Liquid Method: Mix a solution of one part washing-up liquid and two parts water in a spray bottle. Spray the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Blot gently using a clean, damp cloth or kitchen roll. Do not rub as this will spread it further. Rinse the area with cold water to remove any remaining soap residue. Finally, dry your carpet using a clean, dry cloth or kitchen roll to blot the area again, removing as much moisture as possible.
Please note: None of these methods are guaranteed to work as different types of carpets and wine stains may require different cleaning methods.
