🌧️ STORM AUSTEN – CUSTOMER ADVISORY ⚠️

Storm Austen is expected to bring heavy rain and may cause flooding and power outages. Please take a moment to check your sewage treatment plant (STP) and prepare for possible disruption.

✅ Check your STP levels — If levels are high, limit facility use.

⚡ When power returns — An overfill alarm may sound if a scheduled pump-out was missed. Recheck levels before silencing the alarm. It should reset within 24 hours.

🌊 If flooding affects your area — Wait for floodwater to subside. Tankers may help reduce surface water or empty STPs.

🔧 Gravity-fed systems — Monitor levels. If the compressor stops, the system may temporarily operate like a septic tank and should correct itself once power returns.

📞 Need help? Contact our team for advice. We can arrange tank emptying or an engineer visit, if required.

Summer poses unique challenges for wastewater treatment plants, including increased operational pressures and the need for additional maintenance. Here are some key points to consider during this season:
Increased Temperatures: Higher temperatures can accelerate biological processes but also lead to reduced oxygen levels and microbial imbalances. This can affect the efficiency of the treatment process.

Odors: Persistent odors around the system may indicate ineffective treatment or sludge build-up. Regular maintenance helps prevent these issues.

Low Dissolved Oxygen (DO): Warmer water holds less oxygen, which can lead to incomplete organic matter breakdown and reduced treatment efficiency.


Septic Influent: In hot weather, septic influent can lead to hydrogen sulfide (H2S) odors due to anaerobic conditions.

Electrical Issues: Electrical faults can cause pumps to fail and alarms to stop working, leading to system shutdowns. - Your compressor may overheat and switch itself off
